A Video Game to Movie Adaptation That Doesn't Completely Suck?

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time......and its not directed by Uwe Boll

Metacritic gives it a 63% so far out of 4 reviews: http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/princeofpersia

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 50% out of 8 reviews: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/prince_of_persia_sands_of_time/

Anyone interested?  I played the game a little bit one time but got bored pretty fast.  Seems like a fun concept to put on the big screen though.

If this percentage stays true as more reviews come in, would that make it the best video game to movie adaptation ever (based on what critics say)?  The only ones I can think of that I kinda liked were Resident Evil 1 and Mortal Kombat 1.  Maybe I'm forgetting one.

Movie comes out May 28th.  Might make a great future rifftrax if nothing else.

Doctor Who?

From the trailer it looks like Pirates of the Caribbean only with sand instead of water.  I am pretty tired of these types of movies so I may rent it but I will not go out of my way to see it.

Yep, there's nothing like a bunch of Persians with British accents running around.

SJP

It's a branch-out thing.  For years the British have been playing Americans, Romans, and Greeks, why not Persians, too?  I think their goal is to playing everybody in everything by 2033.   ;D

To be fair, I think the movie is going to be fun.  Maybe not great, but it looks like it's intentionally not taking itself too seriously, like the first Mummy movie.

Speaking of which, where's Oded Fehr when you need him?  Granted, he's too old to be playing the Prince, but he's a decent enough actor and, let's face it, he was born IN the Middle East.  Give the guy something other than Deuce Bigalow, Resident Evil, and...hang on...

The hell?  The Codfather?  Who is this guy's agent?

It's a historic fact that everyone born before 1900 had British accents.

I have to admit, though, seeing Gladiator, I could not imagine the actors saying their lines in Italian accents.  "On-a my signal, unleash-a hell!"  The Last Temptation of Christ sort of circumvented the "everyone is British" rule by having the actors speak their lines normally, and while I understand why Scorsese did that (he says that when Jesus spoke, he spoke in the language of the people, not all fancy like), there is still something odd about Judas having a Brooklyn accent.

I do want to see this for two reasons:

1) I'm a Gyllen-aholic.
2) All riffs in my head of what he won't be able to quit

"I can't quit you, sand"

Anakin Skywalker is disappointed with your decision.

A friend of mine who is pretty much the most negative person I know that's not on here saw it and enjoyed it, I'm taking that as a big thumbs up.

I would never see this movie without first getting the opinion of my favorite movie reviewer:

Okay, this just surfaced and it doesn't seem to be finished film (done by the guy who did the "Fame" remake, I think) so it could be a teaser, a pitch for a new game, a pitch for a try at the series or something else but wow. It looks very slick. (I think that's Michael Jai "Black Dynamite" White and that's certainly Jeri Ryan in the clip, so whatever it is, it wasn't made in a garage.)

I just watched this and was headed here to post about it when you beat me to it.

Very slick.  I wonder if this is actually being made into a movie, or if they made this to try and get some buzz going and some studio backing to finance a film.  A serious, gritty MK film could kick all kinds of butt.

This looks like The Dark Knight for Mortal Kombat.

It's how videogame movies should be done:  Not a strict retelling of the story, but a reimagining of the plot.  Games are so cinematic that they can't be made into movies, but reminagining like this works out awesomely, it seems.
