QuoteEA and FUNimation Entertainment, the leading distributor in Japanese animation, have announced today they're working with T.O. Entertainment to produce a Mass Effect anime feature film. The film will be based in the Mass Effect universe, and, "will tell the tale of an epic science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets," according to EA.

Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect series at BioWare will also be the executive producer on the film, so we trust that it's in very capable hands. "Over the last few years, we have revealed different pieces of the Mass Effect world through different media," Hudson said. "Extending the story through an anime medium is another amazing opportunity for us."

Production on the film has already begun and it's currently scheduled for a 2012 release.

As long as it's a separate side story and not re-telling the story from the games, I'm very interested to see what they do with it.

Is like a unicorn or a goose that lays golden eggs, or a leprechaun.  Good luck.

I have defended and will continue to defend the original Mortal Kombat movie. I still think it's the best video game to movie adaptation yet done. They didn't think too hard, anybody familiar with the arcade game was going to follow the movie. Had some decent FX for a low budget mid 90s movie, passable acting, fun techno soundtrack... Just thought it captured the essence of the game as well as anybody should have expected... fun B-movie all the way around.

touche.  That one, as the thread says, doesnt completely suck :)  I just think the video game/movie thing is really an apple to orange thing more often than not and that is why we keep getting crappy movies.  But yeah first mortal kombat was OK.  Holds up pretty good too but i can never help but think of it as a made for tv movie for some reason.

Uh...okay...so we can just call any old thing Mortal Kombat now? Jesus, that looked like it came from Generic Action Movie #264.  :P

MORTAL KOMBAT!

(Curse you, ineffective YouTube-posting skills!)

Alright, so that "Generic Action Movie #264" turned out to be Jax and Kano fighting - and it was actually a pretty good setup to their in-game appearances.

And it looks like the "gritty realism" has been toned down slightly from that original short - and the end of episode 3 today definitely shows they're keeping the supernatural thing in place (Also, Johnny Cage used to be on Power Rangers? Brilliant.):

Completely uncensored versions of the first 3 episodes are coming out on Friday - and Kitana and Mileena are due up next week.

This series is startin' to pick up, though.

Nope. He used to be on Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, which was an American adaption of a different Japanese kids' show, done by a completely different company.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

No, I meant in Episode 3 they specifically say he used to be on Power Rangers.
