I saw it today and loved it! I thought the action was stellar, and much improved. I agree that Tony Stark is more interesting out of the suit than in, though the birthday party scene effectively blirred that. While I liked it a little better than the first one, the accomplishement of setting up the characters and the world was so impressive that the second one has the advantage of benefitting from it. I do think that while Johanson was hot, she didn't have to be there. But she wasn't annoyingly shoehorned in like i thought she would be. I still don't like how super advanced his "holographic computer display" is. It just feels like showing off for the sake of showing off. Also, Rhodey was a tool (in both senses of the word) in this. He fucking STEALS the Mark 2! Just up and takes it (technically twice)! I loved Sam Rockwell's Jusitn Hammer character. So great at being a weasally second rate who wants to be Tony Stark so bad he can taste it. Kinda reminded me of Daffy Duck to Tony Stark's Bugs Bunny. Gary Shandling was cool, but he looked like John Leguizamo in a fat suit.

Pak made the observation after the movie that he's probably the only Marvel superhero portrayed in live action who's more interesting outside the costume (or suit, as the case may be) than in it. I can't help but agree.

What I've always liked about Iron Man is the thought that anyone can use it.  This has gone away in recent tellings of Iron Man, but originally, all you had to do was put on the suit and you'd be a superhero.  X-Men are born with powers, Spiderman got bit by a spider, the Hulk got blasted with radiation, but Iron Man?  He has no powers without his suit.  War Machine is even better.  It's like if you were Tony Stark's buddy, you'd get an awesome robot suit.  And that's why I like Iron Man.

So, when does Black Widow get one then?  Or Pepper? Another "boys only club"?

Maybe - Marvel recently announced they are going to put out a bunch of 'mid budget' movies, and I'd say her character is a pretty strong contender for one of those.

  • When movie studios start talking about churning out "economy style" superhero movies, yeah
  • I'm not a guy

Black Widow is a spy not a superhero, so I think that makes her a really great candidate for this treatment, and I am pretty sure budget wouldn't be the thing stopping them from making a good movie.

Mid-price is $20 - 40 million. Cloverfield had a $30 million dollar budget.

(And sorry about calling you a guy).

I am hopeful-ish for Deadpool. It's a shame that he was put in an X-Universe movie though, I am 1000% more interested in the other universe.

Doesn't matter which universe he's in, Deadpool will still suck.

Black Widow got one in the Ultimates Line (though she was a traitor who nearly killed Tony Stark).  Only picture I could find was one some guy did of a custom figure:

And Pepper Potts even got a suit of armor:
