Golden skinned really, see Egypt was neither white nor black but both of those, imagine her looking like Halle Berry for an easy example.

I think I can do that. In fact I'll try it right now...

Now she's starkers and being lashed by the sea foam, it's a fairly important detail.

That's not sea foam...

Of course, Andromeda was Ethiopian...

Except there was an Ethiopia other than the one in Africa.....

Hate to quote Uncle Wiki on this but I'm watching Nick Clegg at the mo and it's not inaccruate here:

QuoteThe geographical name, in its Greek form Greek Letters not recognised, indeed first appears in Classical sources, in which it refers to the regions south of Egypt and Libya. It appears twice in the Iliad and three times in the Odyssey. The Greek historian Herodotus specifically uses it to describe the Upper Nile region,[2] an area including Sudan and (in principle) modern Ethiopia.

For all intents and purposes it's the same thing.

Andromeda is presented as lily white in most of her representations but I doubt the people hearing the stories imagined her so.

On the other hand, she's supposed to be living in the city of Joppa at the time - and Joppa is described everywhere I can find as "Joppa - Heb. yapo, "beauty" was an old city on the Mediterranean, about 30 miles NW of Jerusalem."  If she originated from the same area as the Hebrews is it not unreasonable to believe that she could be lighter skinned as they are? (which gets me back to Moses being mistaken for an Egyptian but let's not).

And all of this is forgetting how history, governments  and conquering regimes tend to rename cities and regions just because they can?  Russia and the Soviets come to mind....

Tripe

She didn't originate there, she's very clearly from Ethiopia.

She's chained to the rock near Jaffa.

It's also forgetting that this is a fucking MYTH.  It's not history. It's not documentary. It's a goddamn story. Stop trying to interpret it literally.

1) Many if not all myths (including stories in the Bible) are rooted in reality and the myth was built up around it.

2) Nobody asked you.  Butt out.

The 19th century called. It wants its theories back.

That's not strictly true. It's also the justification The History Channel uses to send guys out into the woods looking for sasquatches and gnomes.

Yeah, claiming that ancient myths are rooted in historical fact is theological hokum.

Hahahahaha, you're VASTLY underestimating the hilarious pedantry that goes on here.

I'll be in my bunk.

Just saw this in the theater. A TON of fun! Now this is the kind of fantasy I crave. A world just teeming with mythological beings and interesting creatures. Yes, I wish the characters weren't so one note and the movie was more intelligent, and I do wish the movie wasn't so "gritty" and had been a bit more colorful. Sam Worthington continues to prove nothing because he takes roles that require little from him other than to be a glorified stunt man. He isn't unique enough to be a real identifiable action star like Schwarzenegger or Stallone. But I'll take this kind of dumb fun action blockbuster over any typical cops and robbers action movie (or ANYTHING by Bay) any day.
It'll be interesting to see what Leterrier does next. I love The Incredible Hulk (which was far better than this) and really enjoy Titans. I hope he keeps bringing us cool beasties in the future.

P.S. When Perseus jumps while being chased by Medusa, I swore there was the "6 Million Dollar Man" sound effect.

TTYT

That wasn't the Bionic Woman sound, it was just an electric guitar in the shitty score to the movie. The Bionic Woman sound would've been too clever.

Darth Geek

Does anybody know if the 'Director's Cut' that Leterrier did before it was cut and reshot at studio demand is on the BluRay or coming out eventually? I really want to see that. The God stuff is supposed to make a lot more sense and I think the ending got changed a lot.
