Just goes to show that the first movie in a franchise is usually about as good as it's going to get, that and Videogame, and comic book movies suck.  The only exceptions, IMHO, is the first Batman('89) and the first Spiderman and X-Men, and Hellboy (though to be fair, I haven''t seen Helboy 2 yet.)  All else lies madness...

I have to disagree, I usually find the first sequel better because they don't have the contraints of covering the hero's origins.
True. If it is a good director, then the freedom of story, the additional budget and less producer meddling does tend to lead to better results. See the list Doc Who stated. However if the director is bad, or replaced with a less controlling and more cowtowed to producer demands, then the result is far, far worse.

Of course, the corollary to the rule that comic book sequels are better is the fact that the third in the franchise always sucks.

The gauntlet is thrown, Mr Nolan.

I agree that the first movie in most of the major franchises is the best of the lot. Hellboy is probably my favorite. Don't agree that the sequels are better. All Superman II has is four people on wires. Spider-Man 2 is full of awfulness, Dark Knight is pretentious crap with an incongruous children's toy thrown in. X2 is pants. Hellboy II is okay, but light on good story.

Iron Man 2 might actually be equal to its predecessor. But I have the feeling it will still feel like a sequel, which no good sequel ever should. Hence: every James Bond movie except for Quantum of Solace.

Cracked had an article about every comic book movie being either the best comic book movie ever or the worst comic book movie ever. And it's kinda true.

I gotta say, to me, there just isn't a pattern. Sequels can be good, they can be bad. It's true that messing with success is tough, especially if the film in question wasn't made with sequels in mind.

Here's a list of awesome sequels, maybe better than the original, maybe not:

The Empire Strikes Back (better than Star Wars in my book)
The Dark Knight
Godfather II
Spider-Man 2 (Its certainly a lot more campy than the original, but personally I prefer it)
GoldenEye (hey, it does reference earlier movies, such as a reference to Bond's wife)
Evil Dead II
Army of Darkness
Magnum Force (the only Dirty Harry sequel I like, but I really like it)
Bride of Frankenstein
The Revenge of Frankenstein
Dracula: Prince of Darkness
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV
Aliens
Terminator 2: Judgment Day

That's just off the top of my head.  ;D

If you're talking about the chart, it wasa joke about how fickle and over-opinionated comic fans are.... the fact you agree with it probably says something

I don't believe Bratpop really believes anything he posts because most of it is just so over the top.  He pretty much just says whatever he thinks will start the biggest fight, that is why I don't reply to him.  He just wants to say everything sucks and start fights.  Any way that is my impression and that is why I say just ignore him. m I'm not mad and i am not saying he is a bad person i am just saying it is pointless to debate him,he is always going to take the oposite view and keep taking it in an over the top way.

Just as long as they don't get Alec Baldwin or Billy Zane, Remember when they treid to be an 'old-fashioned action hero'?

...

...

...What?! I'm just sayin'

I remember Billy Zane as the Phantom, but who did Alec Baldwin play?
Why none other than Lamont Cranston,  A.K.A. The Shadow

With a prosthetic nose! Don't forget the prosthetic nose (which is more than you can say for Warren Beatty as Dick Tracy; BTW, did you know the company behind the comic adaptation of that movie had someone go back and alter Kyle Baker's original art to give Dick Tracy Warren Beatty's nose?)!

Is it just be or did they tone down the brightness of the yellow for the movie?

There we go.

Of course, it's not like it's a rare thing to see Madonna's nipple.

Please Marvel, give us some news so we can stop talking about Dick Tracy. Umm, let's see... Emily Blunt's not in the movie. That's something, I guess. Oh, this guy's playing Bucky:

Whatever.

He looks Bucky-ish.  He's no Warren Beaty in Dick Tracy, that's for sure...

I hope he dies quickly.  Bucky's worse than bloody Robin.
