I thought the title "Face Punch" was pretty funny. Reminded me of "Death Blow" and others from Seinfeld. Of course, Seinfeld did more with it and it wasn't just a one line cheap gag like it is here, but in Twilight, a cheap gag that kind of works is a major accomplishment . Like a retarded kid coloring inside the lines.

LMFAO  Oh, and also, I have to admit the little dialogue we heard of Face Punch was kinda funny.  Although the Twilight franchise has a LOT of nerve making fun of ANY other movies or movie genres.
"Did she just say Chipping?"

Good point. It would have been even more ballsy if they had complained that Face Punch was a bad book adaptation.

I think the only character in this universe who reads (outside of school work) is Bella...

Actually, if they'd done that, I probably would've laughed out loud at something in the film.  :D  Because I could not see them doing that as anything but a deliberate (mild) jab at their own series.

But back to the thread's title:
I've learned that a film can say, "we've rubbed your nose in so much foreshadowing that there's no other plot points that have been presented as yet; so you know we're gonna' rip off Shakespeare [and do it poorly because it's a fluffy, sparkly, misogynistic-attitude-glorifying vampire film for teenage girls]," and then go on to do so, and some people will still be surprised by the result.

But they didn't rip off the ending

which would have been the best part!

I actually went to see Romeo + Juliet* in the theater with a friend of mine (her idea, NOT mine). She was dissapointed that they died at the end. She didn't know it was a tragedy.  :D

*Horrible, horrible movie, by the way.

I'm scared to ask this but...how does one get all the way through any educational system on this planet and not know that?

QuoteHorrible, horrible movie, by the way.

The DiCaprio version?  Yeah.  Stick to the soundtrack music.

Not to defend Twilight, but why is Romeo and Juliet that much better? A guy just broke up with a girl, sees another one and instantly falls in love. They meet once and decide they must get married right away because they can't stand to be apart. In the end, he commits suicide because he loves her so much, and she follows him in death.  Sounds like two crazy kids with mental problems, not love.

Seems to me that Twilight and R&J have a lot in common. Co-dependent people with an unhealthy obsession with each other, so much that one can't live/function without the other.

Because Romeo and Juliet shows that stupid actions - not just on the part of the kids but the adults too - have consequences.

For all of Bella's "suffering" she gets everything she wants no matter how stupid and obnoxious her choices.

The full title is The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet !

I graduated high school with some people who could barely read. "No child left behind."

That's not actually how the play goes at all. Anyway, it's an allegory, whereas Twilight is meant to be, I think, more like a modern fairy tale.

Oh, I did to.  Back then it was called "social promotion" - if you made people repeat a grade it would harm them emotionally so let them go on and get even further behind until they finally give up.   ::)

But even if they hadn't read this stuff, they had heard of it and what it was about.  Even if all they'd done is watched the episode of "Wishbone" to fake their way through a book report.

Wishbone was a fine canine thespian.
