Is there ever going to be a second Rifftrax Live?

I'd sure like to hear of any rumors whether this Rifftrax Live was considered a financial success, and if there might be another one.  On one hand, I know that big experimental events like this one are rarely repeated; on the other hand, the Rifftrax enterprise seems to be something that's been gaining steam lately.  I'm guessing I'll have to bide my time....   :(

Well, I figure that this was just like a comedy tour. Usually comedians tour for a few months, then at the end, they record a few shows for either a CD or a TV special. Rifftrax have been doing plan 9 for over a year now, and it probably culminated in the event last night, broadcast to a few hundred theaters.

They'll probably do another movie soon, and tour that one, once again ending in something like this. I'm guessing Reefer Madness, since Legend owns the colorized version of that as well, plus the built in cult fan base.

Well, if most of the theaters nationwide were like ours, I'd say this was a big success.  We didn't sell out like I know a couple locations did but it was a pretty full house.

My local theater might get left out of the next round, as sparse as the audience was, but as long as there's a theater within 30-45 minutes drive, my wife and I will definitely go (hopefully both of us next time).

My theater (Briar Creek in Raleigh) was packed wall to wall so that's a hopeful sign.

I bet our showing was the biggest money maker in the multiplex that night even though it wasn't completely sold out. I don't think there are reports from all 400+ theaters on the web but most of the posts I've read have reported pretty good numbers.  I know some folks ended up getting their money back over technical issues  but I bet they were in the extreme minority. I'm sure there will be lots of folks wanting a slice of this pie but I still bet a pantload of cash was made Thursday night! I'd be really surprised if they didn't do it again. I just hope shows don't become so frequent that they replace the regular Rifftrax we all know and love! (I seriously doubt that'd ever happen)

Scranton, PA, wasn't sold out, but it was a pretty decent crowd, maybe 65% full. We had some drop-outs early on of video and audio, but only a few seconds and only 4-5 times, I think. People seemed to genuinely enjoy it, so I'd say it was a pretty great success.

While I don't have any actual info from Rifftrax, I am assuming that the impact of this Live event was intended to be promotion of the existing site and products more than making money on the event itself.

It would be interesting to see if Rifftrax could coordinate a riff of a newer movie in a live event like this.

I was thinking about that but they have to use a public domain movie, don't they?  Can't use a movie you don't have the rights to or you have to pay out the ass to get it, I imagine.

Public domain or something Legend owns the rights to I'm guessing.  I know they've done live riffings at that one brewery and I thought I remembered them using an newer film with that. But that wasn't nationwide. I don't think they could get away with it for this kind of show.

It wasn't a live riffing. They just played a RiffTrax in conjunction with the film which they probably paid the proper exhibition rights for. The studios will let you play whatever you want as long as you pay for it. Somewhere along I heard that the exhibition fee for the Over The Top live riff in San Francisco was $1000. (I was drinking all that day so I could be wrong)

The question is, what would the exhibition fee be for something like this.  If the showing of Over The Top was $1000 before, would they have to pay $400,000 plus to show it closed circuit?

Maybe they could do a special profit-sharing deal with a studio? The first venture should prove to potential partners that it would be a success.
