Saw it last night and loved it, btw. Nice to have serious sci-fi again.

Did someone not see Moon? :P

I saw that too, last month.. and I think I said the same thing about it :)

Good man.

I like how the independent sci-fi pictures this year are far and away the better choices in every conceivable way (at least until Avatar comes out, and that's got some mighty big shoes to fill).
Something tells me Avatar is going to be a shallower film than this. Just a hunch. I know it's James Cameron, and I expect a lot from him, but I would not be surprised if District 9 is still my favorite sci-fi movie of the year come years end (I haven't seen Moon yet).

I saw it today and loved it!

I ruined my opinion of James Cameron by reading about some of his behind-the-scenes antics. I know it really shouldn't matter if he's a good director, but for heavens sake, the man nearly drowned Ed Harris just so he could get a better shot. What a bastard!

District 9 is rapidly becoming my favorite sci-fi film, I would go and see it again if I had any money. The only bummer for me when I saw it was I got a bad case of motion sickness in the theatre. I would look at the ceiling to calm down my stomach, but I couldn't do it for more than two seconds because I didn't want to miss anything. Thank you God I didn't throw up while watching Wikus blow chunks on screen!
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

Really? 'Cause I was impressed at how the "shaky cam" didn't seem excessive. And I HATE shaky cam (it doesn't make me sick, I just hate it).

I think the cause was the fact that all I had in my stomach was a diet coke and nothing else. I cowgirled-up and kept it down through the whole thing though, which I will only do for the really good movies. During The Bourne Ultimatum I left the theatre for fresh air about halfway through.

I don't usually get queasy during the movies, but too much shaky-cam and not enough in my stomach will do it every time.

I tend not to notice (or heck, even enjoy) shaky cam, though I was pleased there wasn't much in this movie. Especially during the fights, when most movies love to through so much in (along with cuts every half a second) that you can't even tell what's going on half the time. But not this one, everything was so clear and steady 8)

I dunno if it's my favorite sci-fi movie, but it's working its way up the list fairly well.

I told my friends that what I like the most about it, is how it's kind of a large story on a small scale. It's got a message that kind of is all-encompassing but doesn't have that Neo "savior of humanity" crap weighing it down. In that way it's kind of a small story even though the idea of aliens and humans living together is so deeply-rooted in sci-fi, the fact that the underlying story is so rooted in reality (especially with regard to the way humans treat the aliens) is what makes it superior in my book.

One thing that confused me were the spider-like creatures that fought like roosters in the first act. Did they ever explain what those were? They didn't seem like they were Prawns.

According to the IMDB trivia page for it those things were alien rodents found on the mothership.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Trumpysgirl

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

This may be too early, but I think I can already hear the cogs in the fanboys' minds turning over and imagining the alien universe and the fanfiction that will ensue. Especially after that quote from Neill above.

Finally got to see it, but I think how tired I was had an effect on my enjoyment. I mean I liked it, but I wasn't blown away like everyone else seems to be.

Relaxing Dragon

I've actually only seen midnight shows of it (two in a row, so I was quite out of it by the end of the second), so I still need to see it when I'm fully alert and awake. Don't think it affected my fanboism, though :P

I think what this shows to me is that there's good shakeycam and bad shakeycam. This dawns on me now because I don't think I've ever seen it used well very often before.

... God, now I wanna go see it again.

As great as the scene where was, did anyone else have flashbacks to that episode of Futurama where they go back in time to '40s Area 51 and Zoidberg gets dissected?

ZOIDBERG: "Ooh!" -Slurrrprlslruprlrulrprlrurp

Any film that makes me care about something that isn't real automatically gets my respect and approval. I loved Christopher.
