Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

Having read that article and the synopsis of the novelization.....

You know...except for having the Black man play the fool for most of the film....this sounds like it could be campy fun. Whether they meant it to be or not.

Like Burton tried to do with Mars Attacks! and like they were going to do with ID4 before they found out that Burton was making Mars Attacks! a comedy and they reworked it to be a serious film....

Wow...I'm torn.

I dunno about the movie, but I'm so having someone read the novel's description of the Baroness at my funeral in the eulogy. It will be the greatest eulogy ever.

About the "daring the bullet"...?

Yeah, that was something else.  But the person who wrote this story says that the writer of the novelization is talented.....that line makes me think "hack", though.

And the swelling bosom. I want to be remembered fondly.  ;D

Hack or "God I need gas money right now. Yeah I'll write your silly novel. Might take me 3 days". I don't know all the complexities involved with authors writing movie novels, but I've seen some good writers pen some licensed trash quite often over the years. A really good author can make it seem like he/she actually cares about the product.

Speaking as someone who used to devour the Alan Dean Foster novelizations, I will agree.

I've also seen movies and then read novelizations that sorta/kinda match.  The writer having to fill in a lot of gaps, plot and characterization wise (Phantom of the Paradise for example - the Phoenix in the book is way different from the one in the movie)

Which is why I'm also guarded about this being a real representation of G.I. Joe

(before I answer this - let me do this for you "NNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!")

Read an interview with Brent Spiner in which he said that ID4 was a comedy when he signed on to it but that it changed by the time they actually filmed it.

Trying to remember where I saw that it had to do with Mars Attacks being released about the same time....

Toby Danger

Doesn't sound worse than any given episode of the cartoon.

So, apparently nobody told Spiner it wasn't a comedy anymore, then?

It was also in the interview that Okun was based on a SFX guy the producers liked to work with - the operator room scene with his "this do-hicky here" stuff.  And because they'd gone serious the movie needed something lighter about then anyway. So guess they figured there was no reason to change it.

TheBatman

I remember when I first saw those photos of Ray Park as Snake Eyes and thinking "Fuck yeah, this movie is gonna be so kick ass, not even Hollywood could get this wrong!" then I saw the photos of the cast in the Mass Effect armor and thought "Hm, okay, more up to date, makes sense, still looking forward to it" then I viewed the trailer and now I'm like "Sweet lord, what have they done?!"
