the DVD RIfftrax SHorts vol 1- "Drugs are Like That" is still the best

Yep, my latest Room victims got that short too.  My buddy is a recovering substance abuse wizard, 18th level, and he got a kick out of it.

Harry Potter 3 aka Harry POtter and the Prime Minister of Uzbekestan. Brilliant trax, but I think 2 is my favorite HP RT b/c of the mudblood jokes. this whole movie makes me angry because of the stuff they foreshadow and then never explain, and the stupid crap they add/spend too much time on. but the RT is hilarious.

X-Men and X-Men 2, followed by the unriffed X-3 (I bought the trilogy in hopes that they, or at least some iRiffer, gets around to it soon since I think it's the most riffable of the series)
X-Men was great, but they didn't seem to have much energy. Like the opening brought them down, and they just never recovered.
Didn't like X-Men 2 as much, but still not bad.

Interesting. I think the X-men Riff is one of their top 5.

Darned different opinions!

Well I did really like it, maybe not my top 5, but still really good. They just sounded tired/sad in it a lot, especially Bill. Maybe it's just me?

I love the first X men riff.   It's in my top ten.   The second one was enjoyable too but not quite in the same league.  I remember that Bill sounded a little different in this one but it didn't strike me as 'tired', just different.  I attributed it to the fact that it was his first rifftrax and he was getting back into the swing of things.

X-Men 1's riff is easily in my Top 5 and definitely the one I've revisited the most.  Perhaps hearing it when it first came out, I couldn't really notice anything different with Bill seeing how it was his first.

Red Dawn

Good trax.   Joel did pretty good, however either he wasn't miked well or he wasn't talking loud enough.  There were several times when I couldn't hear him very well. I didn't get a lot of belly laughs from this one but the trax was pretty steady throughout with more than enough amusing moments.  I hadn't seen this film since it first came out.  God, it really is an awful movie.  Not only are we supposed to believe that six high school kids can hold off the entire Russian army, but we get no explanation for what the hell the Russians are doing.  Why shoot helpless unarmed civilians the second they get there? Why put their headquarters in  a small town in the middle of nowhere?  It made less and less sense as it went along.

And why are Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen "all used up" after only a few months of fighting? Why would Leah Thompson's character fall in love with the pilot if they weren't going to do anything with that storyline and he's the least likely character for her to have feelings for anyway?
NOTHING about this movie makes any sense.

Brought the shorts volumes 1 & 2 over to a friends' place.  We all enjoyed shaking hands with danger, learning how students are different, the danger dodger salute, and how hip coffee houses are.

Well, I don't think the idea was that six high school kids held off the entire Russian army... but that six high school kids waged a guerilla war and caused them some serious headaches. The Germans faced similar issues in France / Eastern Europe, the Americans in Vietnam / Iraq and the Russians in Afghanistan.... small, non-traditional forces taking hit and run pot shots against the big, organized armies that were trained for pitched battles.

While it wasn't exactly the greatest story ever told... the reasoning for the Russians actions were laid out during the exposition attacks from the pre-opening credits yellow text and the scene after they found the downed pilot. Also, there is nothing to suggest (that I recall) that the small town nowhere is the Russian headquarters for their entire operation. I thought it was meant to be respective of any number of towns in the occupied territories, with regional Russian / Cuban military acting as garrison heads charged with keeping the populace contained.

I agree that they didn't do much with the Lea Thompson / Powers Booth tangent... but the relationship could be explained by simply daddy issues. Lea's character lost her family, Powers Booth comes along as the established adult and fills that void. Did the movie handle this very deftly? not really, but I thought where they were going with it wasn't that confusing.

I'm not really trying to build up Red Dawn into something it isn't...  but I still think it works more than it doesn't... and it's on a slightly higher level than most 80s action flicks.
