It's probably the way the trailer's cut and the fact that there are robotic-looking things in it.  The cinematography looks similar too, with the high-contrast, blazing-sun look to everything.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

Yeah, but there's no shots straight into the sun....or shaky camera or camera flares.

And it looks like the thing has an actual plot and theme.

Junkyard

I call for cautious optimism.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

I smell cult film.

Either underappreciated gem or "so bad it's good".

;)

I'm hoping for at least a fun monster movie. We need more of those. I also hope the politics isn't too heavy handed. What with them being segregated in South Africa of all places, it already seems too obvious of an allegory.

Could send them to Gitmo instead?   ;)

Unsurprisingly I'm looking forward to this quite a lot.

Ditto, I can't wait for it. It looks to be a very cool sci-fi movie 8)

I recommend checking out http://d-9.com/  I am also really looking forward to this one!  Been so long since we have had a good sci-fi!

I am not looking for a "fun" sci-fi btw.  This reminds me more of the classic sci-fi plots where there was always a moral story behind it, "a warning to our future generations" announcement at the beginning sort of movie.

And just to add my 2 cents that this is not even remotely Bay-like.  Watch the trailer again.  I am pretty sure those insectoid aliens and not Megan Foxeses!

The TV ads are making it look like Pleasantville or Alien Nation, though.  Or, worse....Starship Troopers.

Sweet, I love 2 of the 3

I know.   Just worried that if it's not 1) it will get it a bad rep ("They sold this as a satire and it's a bloody shoot-em-up..." or whatever) and 2) a serious cool sci-fi movie would probably pull in many more people.  Especially the T2: RotF audience.

(assuming that this movie is as good as it looks)

Darth Geek

The fact that it's rated R gives me more hope, as I haven't seen anything in the trailers or commercials that would indicate it would be. Which means there is likely plenty of stuf we're NOT seeing, and it's nice not having everything spoiled for once.

RoninFox

Saw the first trailer and it was enough to get me curious.  I think this trailer just guaranteed the movie'll get my money.

Looks interesting, plan to see this.

Doctor Who?

I have only seen the adds and know nothing else about this movie but i hope it is going to be the movie that makes the summer for me.  I can't wait.  I didn't catch the release date on the add, when is it coming out?
