His inner psyche should have been in slow-motion with harsh lighting and maybe a lens flare.

That was funny. Loved the name of the co-host robot thing. And yes, Michael Bay's inner psyche was great.

That would make one hell of an animated avatar too.

The film is what it is, a big summer popcorn movie, nothing more nothing less.

Translation: The same old boring excuse for sloppy mediocrity.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Truth. I am so sick of that excuse.

Besides Star Trek, has there been any other Hollywood Blockbuster that's been positively reviewed yet?

RobtheBarbarian

Ever? Terminator 2 was pretty good...

mrbasehart

I mean this year.  Seems like a fallow period for the big movies.

RobtheBarbarian

I think we're out of luck until The Expendables comes out.

mrbasehart

Well, Harry Potter might be good.  The last one disappointed me, but overall the series has been good.

Would The Hangover and Up count? Otherwise, none that I can think of.

This just in if you don't shower every movie that comes out of Hollywood with praise and act like it is the best thing ever no matter how stupid or racist it is you are a big baby!

That doesn't extend to just Transformers you know. Honestly, do you really love watching spoon fed crappy movies? Whatever happened to good, well executed Summer movies with souls like E.T. or Raiders of the Lost Ark, movies that appealed to narrative sensibilities, not money grubbing hucksterism?

Couldn't agree more, Midna. And the fact that your two example were from Spielberg, who hired Bay for these, shows just how much he's lost it.

Here's my problem with a lot of the complaints about the Transformers movies: Most of the people doing the complaining couldn't string five words together on the subject of what they would have done differently.

An example of what I'm talking about: I have a friend (who, like me, is a comics fan) who absolutely HATED The Dark Knight. Even though I disagree with his assessment, he was at least able to articulate where he thought the movie went wrong, and what decisions he would have made to turn it into something he would have enjoyed.

I've not heard so much as a syllable of that from Transformers fans who have been bitching about these movies for three+ years (who are in the minority, btw; virtually every old-school TF fan I know loves the movies). If you want to hate the Transformers movies based on cinematic merit (they ARE Michael Bay movies, after all), that's one thing. But the vast majority of people who will respond to this saying that they DO hate them on the basis of merit will be lying through their teeth: They hate the films because it isn't the four-color, 8 fps toy commercials they remember from their childhoods.

Like I said in discussing the first movie, some people have made FAR too great an emotional investment in the concept, and their expectations are so amorphous (and, dare I say, juvenile) as to be impossible to satisfy; good on Michael Bay for not even trying.

Someone brought up the example of Pirates of The Caribbean in an utterly failed attempt to draw a parallel. The reason the PoTC movies worked is that the expectations for the first film were basically nil. Let's be honest: Are those films really anything more than slightly upscale popcorn movies?
