My point is, Transformers is such a slight premise that you really don't need an auteur to bring it to the big screen. I'd rather good directors focus on other stuff.

Yes, but I've read fanfiction from people who write Trabsformers stories for fun that are better than what Bay's done for the franchise.

And those people have turned Transformers from an item of retro trivia into something that is actually in the public eye again?
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Yes, because it's fans like that that make Transformers conventions, retro toys and other merchandising possible. Otherwise it would be just a distant memory not worth spending millions of dollars on a movie.

That about sums it up. And I bet if some talented fanfiction writers (Not just any fanfiction writers just to make my point clear. Just the really exceptional ones.) could bang out a script it'd be a much more entertaining experience too than what we have. Anythiong is better than the slap dash approach that seems to be the usual cop out for anything based on a toy line, video game, etc. etc. Just read about the upcoming GI Joe debacle where test audiences gave it the lowest test score of any movie ever. I am sick of film makers taking the easy road with these adaptations just because it's based on the Transformers toys and whatnot. It doesn't give them the right to do whatever the hell they want. Whatever happened to doing your hardest to at least making a decent movie regardless of the source? I mean give me a break. Do movie audiences really demand to see John Turturro in a thong or two male dogs humping or Spike's mom hallucinating from eating pot laced brownies? How is this adding to the already convoluted story?

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Actually, we merely kept it on life support until Hasbro could think of a way to bring it back to a younger crowd that would spend $ on it. As much stuff as there is that's G1-centric, there is far, far more that isn't and that's the stuff making the big bucks now. We got the ball rolling, but it's stuff like Bay's TFs that keep the ball rolling. Whether fans like it or not.

My review, which was far too long to even spoiler post here (IMO): http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=119924767&blogId=496880369. Some of it is retrospective bullcrap, but it's a public blog and it needed it. But for those who don't care, I had been entertained at the end of the movie. I think that's what movies are for, so Bay did his job.

Slight premise? Jonathon Lynn and John Landis made a good movie out of CLUE, for crying out loud! You know how? Because they are good filmmakers! Michael Bay is not.

I'm not going to see this film. Maybe when it comes out on DVD, but defenitely not when I have to pay ten bucks to see it.
By all apearences and reports, this film is just the last one, but more so in every direction.
Now Micheal Bay has to have known that some things just weren't well recieved the last time, so he brings them back in force.
Why?
Because he actively dispises moviegoers. He knows we'll still go see it because the premise itself promises giant robots. It wouldn't be that hard to make a film that doesn't make you kringe and feel embarressed while watching, but that wouldn't be nearly as fun.
So no, he's not getting my money.

I might like to add that Pirates of the Caribbean was a movie based upon a theme park ride and Gore Verbinski, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio were able to make that slight premise into a really good movie without copping out. If there ever was the slightest of a premise basing a movie on a themepark ride is much more slight than basing it off of a cartoon. There is no excuse for why you have to take a half assed approach when it comes to Transformers.

Thanks, Midna. I think that's an even better example becauseof the budget comparisons, that it was also a modern summer blockbuster, and that there were other movies Disney made with the exact same idea (turn a theme park attraction into a movie), like Country Bears that turned out terrible, because they hired bad filmmakers.

I try to help out whenever I can. ;) But it really does just astound me that most guys, like Paul W.S. Anderson, take a franchise with a rich wealth of information and churn out crap movies because they just don't care. All they care about is the bottom line and that's conning people out of their money. Yet you have a movie like Pirates of the Carribean that has not very much to go on (And maybe that's a good thing in a way.) yet they were able to produce a very entertaining movie.

The animation of Michael Bay's inner psyche made me laugh.
That was funny. Loved the name of the co-host robot thing. And yes, Michael Bay's inner psyche was great.

Sideswipe

The film is what it is, a big summer popcorn movie, nothing more nothing less.  Thats what it is and it delivers.  Its a big action movie, no one tries to pretend that it isnt, if you want something with more depth watch a boring indie flick.  The majority of fanfiction is utter crap, if you are really a Transformer fan than you will know that there are episodes with the plot far worse.  I thought the story was perfecly sound for the kind of movie it is.  Yes there were some over the top moments, like Sam's mother but you forget about it once you get into the movie.  Stop bitching about Devastors "testicles" for fuck's sake.  They are wrecking balls from a robot made out of construction vehicles and they were only mentioned in one scene, ints not like they were glorified for 10 minutes.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Ditto. Actually, I was laughing for most of the review. Spot on.
