My God... are theaters ready to clean all the fanboy jizz off the seats after each showing?

well well well.  i rather liked it.  i agree with most others the songs were a bit heavy handed but i think it did a damn good job of compressing it.  the only thing i really missed and fortunately i know its gonna be on the directors cut is .  aside from that the other bits missing i pretty much new were gonna be gone but ill keep hope to see them in directors cut.

My class was overall appreciative of the film.  the teacher was very pleased with it.  most complaints were from people not used to gore.  and a few people said it was overlong.

one thing that kinda bugged me was laurie and manhatten on mars i missed all of lauries swearing and getting pissed of at jon hopefully therees a bit more of that in DC.

still though real damn good job

You want travesty? I'll give you travesty, also nostalgia.

Finally saw this.

That was awesome.

For something fan made the animation and sound was better then what I have seen on a lot of real kids shows lately.

And one of my theatres has three prints of Tyler Perry's Madea Goes To Jail... so we already had drool covers in place, which work just as well.

Doctor Who?

If I could only get that kiss?!

That's even creepier then Star Wars.

Yeah, that's my favorite part as well (or maybe Veidt's expression at the very beginning when he calls the Watchmen) :D

I meant he was the hero in that he was saving the world. Pointed out the millions dead to put it in context.
As for the um's, that can't be helped. I was going unscripted. When I do audio-visual, prepared reviews, you don't end up getting that, but this was more casual.
Oh, and thanks regarding the beard! I actually bought an electric shaver thing today to trim down the sides, after getting a haircut. My tri- annual grooming session is complete, and I won't need to worry about it again till August.

Just got out of Watchmen, and am still processing. Overall, I think I liked it.  As somebody who was into Watchmen before it was cool (have I mentioned that?), the many joys overruled the panoply of disappointments.  Hell, Kelly Leak alone is worth the price of admission. Which, by the way, was 11 FUCKING DOLLARS!  No wonder nobody goes to the movies anymore.

But, yeah, just to see Rorschach done almost exactly right on the big screen was enough to make me forgive the movie's failings.

Of those failings, I'd say the two biggest disappointments for me were:

1. We never really get a glimpse of the relatively normal, pre-madness Rorschach.  As he's the (a)moral keel of the Watchmen ship, it's critical that we realize what he was, and what he's become, and how the one lead into the other.

2. I can't imagine anybody seeing the film and not immediately suspecting Veidt.  His backstory is non-existent, and he's given almost nothing to do in the present except look conniving and exude a Euro-weasel vibe.  Over the last few days I've heard a number of people bash the actor, but honestly, the screenplay is the problem here.  But for the notable absence of Jonathan Winters, I'd have thought I wandered onto a lost episode of Scooby Doo.

Those two things are made worse by the fact that fixing them would have been very simple.  It could easily have been done in the time wasted on proselytizing about eeeeeeevil oil and rolling out the tired, gratuitous dig on Reagan.

I'm also pretty sure that if I hadn't already read the comic, I'd have left the theater confused and annoyed.  I would have major reservations about recommending the film to anybody who hadn't already read, and enjoyed the book.  Which is a bummer, because I'd hoped to use the movie as a springboard to introduce a few people to the books.  Then again, Ebert seems to have dug it, so who knows?

I tried to imagine how much I would enjoy the movie if I hadn't read the book, and it's impossible. I would think it wouldn't have the same impact.

A few of my friends who hadn't read it really enjoyed the movie though.

I don't think I know anyone who hadn't read the book and didn't enjoy the movie.
FINE

I can say that I went with both my roommates.  One had read the book and the other hadn't, and they both seemed to enjoy it about the same amount.
