The Most Ridiculous Movie-Related Thing You've Heard

So my 17-year-old cousin said something on Christmas that may just be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard anyone say about an actor, which was this:  "Will Smith has never made a bad movie."

...

What the hell?

I thought I'd taught all my cousins better than this, but apparently I haven't.  I did ask him if he'd seen Wild Wild West, and he said "I didn't think Wild Wild West was that bad."

...

Every day I lose hope for his generation.  Any of you ever hear someone say something that can top that?

Maybe he was referencing what he thought about salma Hayak in the movie.

I have one. A co-worker said they liked Indy 4 and thought it was Good!

daltysmilth

Well, I wouldn't call that ridiculous, necessarily.  He was merely stating his opinion.  It's not like he said, in all sincerity, that Indy 4 was without a doubt the greatest movie of all time, did he?  Or even that it was the best movie in the series?

Not the greatest but they said it was as good as the old Indy movies... to further my point, they then said Nicholas Cage is one of their favorite actors. I was afraid to go any further with the conversation.

Shark Tale, starring Will Smith, was atrociously bad. Every performer in the history of acting has appeared in at least one play or film that was bad.

I thought Wild Wild West was pretty fun when it first came out. Obviously, it's not as well-rounded as Men in Black, but pretty entertaining. It's far from the most embarrassing film Barry Sonnenfeld has ever done, considering that, at no point is there a scene where Robin Williams is covered in feces.

I once heard a guy state that he enjoyed something I disliked.  That was nuts.

My parents both love Ishtar and Waterworld.

I wonder if I should commit them now or later?

Ishtar was a great comedy that was judged purely on the basis of budget. People hated it before they went into the movie, so it was doomed to fail. Had the exact same movie, frame for frame, been made on a lower budget with Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, it would have been a huge hit. It's the same style of humor as Spies Like Us and the Hope/Crosby Road... movies. There's no good reason why Ishtar should be regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. If you ask someone what exactly is wrong with Ishtar, they can't think of a single reason. If the amount of people who hated the movie had actually gone to see it, it would have done better at the box office. A lot of the critics complain about how bad the songs were, when that was the point. It was a joke! The songs are intentionally bad! Criticizing the songs is like saying "Weird Al" Yankovic's lyrics are too ridiculous.

I liked Ishtar too.  Always thought that movie has gotten a bad rap.

I watched it and I had the same reaction I had while watching Wedding Crashers...... not a single laugh in the whole thing.

The whole "hoffman is the cool guy and beatty the nerd" joke would have been good for a 10 minute set piece, not the whole movie.

I have only seen Ishtar once, and it was back when it originally came out on VHS.  So I can't really remember too much about the movie.  I do remember that I enjoyed it.

Wedding Crashers was just OK, not the comedy wonder that a lot of people made it out to be.  I don't care for Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson, so that might have skewed my judgment.

Yeah, having Vaughn and Wilson in the movie (I cannot stand them) gave the movie two strikes before it began, and didn't Will Farrel appear in the movie later?   God, I almost wanted to die at that point.

But I like Kevin Smith movies, so what do I know?

I enjoyed Wedding Crashers, but I didn't think it was as hilarious as most people thought it was. It started off slow, but I kept with it, and found it funny. I like Vaughn/Wilson, but that doesn't exempt them from making terrible movies. Remember, Vaughn was miscast as Norman Bates in the remake of Psycho.

Especially since Will Farrell was in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

I never said I was consistent in my hatred....... it is like the wind that can change at a moments notice.

I stand by my assertion that Indy IV, while not nearly as good as Raiders or Last Crusade, is a HELL of a lot more enjoyable than Temple of Doom.
