Monopoly:  My pitch

A group of misfits finds out that an evil company is foreclosing on their parent's property in order to put up a series of identical red hotels.  The kids set off on a journey to find the money to keep their homes, investing in their own property along the way and having to outwit a dangerous group of murderous real estate developers.

So it's like The Goonies, just with buying houses and with nothing that made Goonies fun.

I'll go lie down now.

I'm sure there are other threads out here about this, but I started this one first, and this is the only one I will post in

QuoteMichael Bay's Platinum Dunes have been brought on deck to bring Hasbro's supernatural game "Ouija Board" to the big screen. The project is set up at Universal, where Hasbro has a six-year strategic partnership.

Although the specific log line for the film is being kept under wraps, the film will be a supernatural adventure with the Ouija board playing an integral part of the story. The movie is not taking a "Jumanji"-like approach, which involved a game coming to life.

While divination or spiritual boards have been around for centuries, they began being sold as novelty items in the late 1800s, with the first Ouija board, one with an alphabet on it, being patented in 1890. Players' fingers are placed on a small planchette that mysteriously moves to letters and numbers in order to spell out messages from beyond the earthly realm.

The board has been produced by Hasbro's Parker Brothers since 1966, with millions being sold worldwide.

Oh hey, Ouija: the movie.

I thought they made that as The Exorcist?

"You sank my movie industry!"

Good one.

But if none of these movies have Tim Curry too...then forget it.

This can't be right:

From the imdb:

QuoteDirector Ridley Scott will helm the bizarre big screen adaptation of popular boardgame Monopoly.  The Gladiator moviemaker has been signed by studio giant Universal to bring the long-running game to life.  According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ridley will give the Monopoly movie a futuristic edge akin to his 1982 epic Blade Runner.  Corpse Bride screenwriter Pamela Pettler has also been drafted in to create a storyline for the film.  The unlikely subject matter is just one in a line of Hasbro games to get big screen makeovers as part of an exclusive pairing with Universal Studios.  Transformers filmmaker Michael Bay is producing a Ouija Board feature, while a film version of beloved classic Battleship is also in development.

Tripe

This I cannot wait to see

Wasn't there already a horror movie based on the Quija board?
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

There's Witchboard, starring Tawny Kitaen.

Call me optimistic, but did they actually HAVE to BUY the RIGHTS to BOARD GAMES in order to loosely base a movie on something inspired by the title or premise? I think you could make a movie about a "monopoly" or a "battleship" or a ouija board  without having to pay Hasbro. (I can't believe they actually own the ouija board trademark. That sounds like a load of crap to me, like copyrighting a labyrinth or hop-scotch.) What's next, someone paying a company for the rights to make a movie about jump-rope or jacks?

And they were smart enough not to pay anyone for it.

Clue does not need to be remade. Great movie.

Agreed.

Whenever I here about the possibility of a Ouiji: The Movie I keep thinking of that cheesy movie the kid was watching at the very beginning of Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders.

QuoteThe Hasbro/Universal "Monopoly" project has brought on Pamela Pettler to write the screenplay; She penned Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride," Gil Kenan's "Monster House" and the upcoming animated adventure "9."

Ridley Scott, who has been attached as a producer on "Monopoly" and has been mentioned as a possible director, is now officially attached to helm the project, with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic "Blade Runner."

"Monopoly" marks the latest Hasbro property to head to the big screen. Board games and branded properties have become more attractive as studios look to mitigate risk by finding built-in audiences.

Universal is working with Hasbro on several projects as part of a long-term development deal. Platinum Dunes is producing its feature adaptation of "Ouija Board," while the maritime classic "Battleship" is also in development. Elsewhere at Hasbro, Paramount this summer is set to release Stephen Sommers' feature based on its "G.I. Joe" character. And "Trivial Pursuit: America Plays" is now airing as a syndicated television program.
