QuoteUniversal Pictures and Hasbro announced today that they have formed a six-year strategic partnership to produce at least four motion pictures based on some of the world's best-known and beloved brands. Some of the brands include "Monopoly," "Clue," "Ouija," "Battleship," "Magic, the Gathering" and "Stretch Armstrong."

Under the terms of the deal, Hasbro will partner exclusively with Universal Pictures for feature films, with the exception of "Transformers," which became the centerpiece of the 2007 smash hit movie directed by Michael Bay and has already spawned a sequel; and "GI Joe," which is currently filming under the direction of Stephen Sommers. The first movie from this deal will be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal will release at least one film a year thereafter.

In addition, in August 2007, Hasbro announced an agreement with Electronic Arts to develop digital games based on many of its properties across a variety of platforms.

Man, I can't wait for these (possible) movies.  How in the hell do you adapt Battleship or Monopoly?

Tripe

Monopoly : OK doable; rival offspring of the little moneybags character try to become favored heir by buying out all the property in a little town.
Clue: Already done and it's magnificent
Ouija: Difficult to do in a way not detrimental to the rep of the product.
Battleship: Some sort of Last Starfighter type adventure?
Magic, the Gathering easy though the folks from Yu-Gi-Oh might file a suit
Stretch Armstrong: It's made for Aaron Eckhart

Wasn't M:tG first?

There were dozens of books made based on M:tG, but unfortunately a large portion of them were utter shite. Arena, however, was fucking awesome. Garth One-Eye is one of the coolest one-off characters I've ever enjoyed reading about. If they made a movie about that book, I'd be in heaven. Of course, it won't be about that story, but it should still be good (hopefully, anyway).

Yeah the product was, but the only way I could see them doing a movie would end up tied up by Yu-Gi-Oh's lawyers suing the shite out of the film makers.

Ugh.  I'll never forgive this guy for Van Helsing, what a terrible mess that was.  Looks like he's going to extend his streak of brainless BLAMs (Big Loud Action Movies).  Say what you will about Michael Bay, to me Stephen Sommers is much worse.

If they go the route of the books (I'm assuming, haven't read the books) and just had a story using the kinds of creatures and magic thats described on the cards, Yu-Gi-Oh wouldn't have anything to say, but I think Tripe's suggesting they would make a movie about characters that played Magic the Gathering on some big scale with actual monsters or something along those lines.

"Stretch Armstrong."

James Earl Jones IS Vacman!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of making a movie about a toy you can't find in toy stores anywhere around here anymore.

I can't wait for Candyland and Chutes & Ladders: The Movie, Paramount better get on that shit before they lose their chance.

Oh hey, Ouija: the movie.  Some kids in a haunted house trying to scare each other end up following clues and solving a mystery...and no Scrappy Doo

Bingo! It's the only way i can see the game being translated to the movie screen and still having the essence of the game intact.
