Here's a Windows question: Is Media Center 2005 built on an XP Home platform, or XP Pro?

Going to guess Home. I think WinMC was sort of the precursor to XP, and I remember it being fairly "family-friendly".. in other words, less Pro options to try and figure out, since its goal was to be a kind of point-and-click interface for use in living rooms.

Ok here's a problem I'm facing.

I have this bastard little adware thing that keeps showing me pop ups for (ironically) spy ware sweeping applications. I have run adaware a couple of times (am doing it now in fact) to try and shift it and it's still there.

I don't want to have to reformat my damn HD but I'm not sure how to get rid of the damn thing.

Hmm.. Here's 3 options off the top of my head..

1) You could do a 'System Restore' to a date before the unwanted program was installed, but that has it's risks..

2) Might want to pull the hard drive and have an external scan done from another computer with a powerful antivirus/spyware removal program (I use Trend Micro myself)

3) Or just take the hard drive (or whole computer) to a professional to have them remove it without reformatting

Nah I'm just going to reformat the bugger.

It's disabled my task manager now

here goes I hope my damn computer doesn't end up being killed

Someday after years of research and trial and error it will be 12% less annoying.

I slashed and burnt, it's have to be something other than a program to hang on after that.

Well despite the caveman lawyer side of me, when I want to be, I'm slightly tech savvy :)

That was fast. It takes me hours and hours after a system wipe to get sorted.
It's either a small hard drive, or a quick format option..

I use 'BCWIPED' (Dept. of Defense standard) before reformatting mine 8)
