That's the one I was thinking of! Sure, it was pretty good, and I got a kick out of it, but too many people were just jumping for joy at just how "amazing" the film was, but c'mon, settle down already.

Agreed, it was a decent film, but I don't get the mania that surrounds this movie.

Junkyard

The mania came ffrom how over the top it was at points.
How do a bunch of screaming, half naked men throwing their spears around NOT get you excited?

.... did that sound gay?

.... did I want that to sound gay?

Doctor Who?

I have to say The Simpsons movie.

Yes it had some good parts but there were long streches were I didn't laugh.

There is no way it lived up to the hype.

I hate to agree, but I must. I enjoyed the movie, I thought it was funny, but it just wasn't as good as it should've been (they should have made it about ten years ago, back when the show was still completely hilarious, as opposed to the hit-and-miss thing it has going as of late).

Sin City. It sucked so bad I was laughing my ass off at it in the theater. At it - not with it. Stupid dialog, laughable situations, ridiculous bad guys... the thing was like a bad tribute to Heavy Metal, but without the titties. It is, BTW, the movie I would most like to see RiffTraxed in the future.

Any Kevin Smith move after the original Clerks. He just keeps doing the same damned jokes over and over again. They say everybody has one good move idea in them. Kevin Smith had one - and then kept making movies based on the same idea. And he doesn't even do that well. I mean, Christopher Guest keeps making mockumentaries based on the same idea, but they're still all funny.

Along the same lines - the Austin Powers sequels. I liked the first one, but #2 and #3 weren't really sequels so much as remakes of the first one.

Star Trek IV. I mean, it was funny at the time, but now it's just embarrassing. Lame, sitcom-level jokes, a dopey save the whales message that hasn't aged well, next to no real plot... a mess.

V For Vendetta. If I want an obnoxious, hectoring, holier-than-thou political lecture, I can get one down at the coffeehouse next to campus for free - I don't need to pay ten bucks to get one in what's supposed to be an action film. It's the same reason I don't buy Rage Against The Machine albums - which this was basically a movie version of.

As for Apocalypse Now, it was good until after they pass that last bridge in Vietnam - where the guys with the suitcases want to get on the boat. After that, it kind of gets obscure and boring.

Kill Bill. Actually, any Tarantino movie other than Pulp Fiction, but especially Kill Bill. It was the product of someone who likes asian cinema for all the wrong reasons. The characters were cheesy and often borderline racist, the action was over the top without having the magical quality of a good asian action film, and there really was no plot - just an excuse to string together bad action scenes with too-clever dialog.

Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and Ben Stiller - all generally about as funny as a kick in the crotch. Tropic Thunder is the exception that proves the rule. Otherwise, it's all jokes that I laughed at in sixth grade more out of boredom than anything else.

Oh, and as long as we're on this subject; it's not a movie, but - Evangelion. Best anime ever? Yeah - maybe if I'd never seen any of the other animes it ripped off ideas from. Giant robots you say? That's real original for an anime. Sorry, cliches + pretentiousness does not = genius.

That's about it for now.

P.S. No, I couldn't leave without pointing out that Family Guy is awful - overrated, underfunny, and possessed of the opinion that simply proving that you did indeed live through the late 70s and early 80s by endlessly referencing the pop culture of that period is enough to make your show interesting.

Garr... so much I disagree with >_>

But whatever (although I agree on Austin Powers 3. I rather enjoyed 2, but 3 just seemed like a lame retread).

I will step in to say that the only truly decent (and, in fact, good) anime is Cowboy Bebop (and maybe Detective Conan on a rainy day). That is all.

RoninFox

I disagree with you saying there's very little good anime, but at least you recognize quality in Cowboy Bebop.

Doctor Who?

I have never understood why most people like Star Trek IV more then Star Trek III.

Star Trek III is almost as good as Star Trek II IMO,and Star Trek IV is one of the most dated movies ever.

Doctor Who?

Well i don't think 3 was as good as 2 but it I have always enjoyed it almost as much as 2.

It was a entertaining piece of Trek and it dated better then 4.

All three of them did work pretty well as a trilogy.

Doctor Who?

Oh don't get me wrong Star trek 2 is the out and out classic of the Star trek movies.

I just get a lot of enjoyment out of Star trek 3 as well.

I disagree with Nergol's entire post.

Well, I like Trek 2 as a MOVIE, not just as a Star Trek movie.

haha.  :highfive:

Don't get that since it was a direct sequel to a TOS episode...you don't have one without the other.

But then I feel the same way about First Contact even though you don't have that film without "Best of Both Worlds".  Although in the case of First Contact, maybe that's not a huge tragedy.

Nah. You don't need to have seen Space Seed at all to get Trek II; everything is laid out.  Need I find that post on "exposition"? :)
Oh....I realize that.   That was all in the part with Chekov - which is the only part that doesn't make sense but it's acknowledged as a "necessary evil" (I still can't get over the ship's computer never pointing out to anyone that - even though they've charted this system - there's a whole freaking planet missing).

And you don't really have to see "Best of Both Worlds" to get what Picard is freaked out about.  What is hard to understand about First Contact is that someone who is still that deeply in the throws of Post Tramatic Stress is in the Captain's Chair.....among other things.

Hey come on, how can you not like a movie where Kirk says "I think he(Spock) had a little too much LDS.".
