Sounds about right. That and sub-plot characters tend to disappear without warning (like that Chinese guy. Whatever happened to him?)

The one who was burnt to death on the pile of money you mean?

Yeah him (are we still concerned about spoilers with this movie?). [He was last seen tied up on top, and then... nothing. Not even a shot of him after it's set on fire or a mention of him. He's just gone. Sure, it gives an indication of what probably happened to him, but nothing more. Pretty much the same thing with Reese; he was there, then he's taken away from the accident and... nothing, no mention of him for the rest of the movie.

For the three of us who haven't seen it yet, can we not discuss Dark Knight plot details in this thread, please? :)

And you work in a movie theater?   ;)

mrbasehart

Because I don't watch films at the cinema outside of my work hours.  Going to work, even just to watch a film, is something I wouldn't do.  Besides, the movie's been there for a little while now, and the quality of a blu-ray disc is gonna be better.  I actually miss quite a few of the big movies, purely down to circumstance: I saw none of the Pirates movies at the cinema, nor King Kong, the two later Matrix sequels, nor Hancock, or I am Legend.

I did have the "privilege" of watching Mamma Mia again the other day though.  This time with subtitles for those who want to sing along!  :)

Alright, one more time in this thread.

Any further remarks should probably move over to the Dark Knight thread.

I'm referring to the whole entire creation that can be referred to as Star Wars.

It was a neat little movie, but not something to worship.

Ok, I'll let off you a little. Only the OT is worth anything as far as Star Wars goes, and people who worship the whole thing, i.e. people who have "Jedi weddings" and such are truly touched in the head.

But that doesn't mean I'm not watching you...

You should watch me.  I'm a bad man/woman.

Dim of the Yard

Yeah, keep one eye on BTA, and one eye on me, then.  I thought Star Wars was overrated, as well.  It's fun, sure, but I just don't get all of the hype that's built up, even the original trilogy.  And I most certainly don't think A New Hope, in particular, better than North By Northwest.  Grrr.

Edit: Reworded the last sentence a bit.

Nunyerbiz

I didn't read the whole thread... so I dunno if this movie has been the subject of any blasphemy yet... but...

The Dark Knight

Yes, a good movie... But come on? Is it really that great of an achievement? Yes, Heath was very good as The Joker (even if I prefer Jack's take which is a little closer to Cesar Romero's calculating clown over Heath's blatant, let impeccibly well prepared, psychopath.)

You still got Christian Bale looking somewhat lost in the lead role... He's not terribly convincing as Bruce Wayne and he's trying too hard as Batman... I dunno... I enjoyed the movie immensly, I just didn't see it as anything more than a well done action movie. It's a solid three outta four stars... but it seems to be getting all kinds of buzz as something more than I found it to be.

Relaxing Dragon

^^^ Full agreement, like I said.

And yet another word on Heath (promised myself I wouldn't do this, so sorry in advance): he did a great job. It was a memorable role, and as far as performances to go out on, that's more than pretty good (sure as hell beats Connery and his final appearance in film, and that dude's still alive, so he has no excuse). But all too often I see his name creeping into these Top 5 or Top 10 screen villains of all time, and I can't help but think he doesn't deserve a slot (sure, he's up there somewhere (I'd give him Top 50, definitely), but much like the whole movie, it just isn't pick of the litter material).

OK, no more TDK rants from me, I swear.

I'm going to get murdered for this, Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter.

AN, eh Duvall was funny but I don't see the BFD here.  Unless watching Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando have a mumblethon interests you I don't get all the love.

Deer Hunter was just flat out long and had no sense of time to it.  I honestly was never sure when during the war this was taking place.

Hate to admit this...but I've never been able to make it all the way through either of these.

That wedding reception in Deer Hunter is freaking deadly.

The documentary on the making of Apocalypse Now is much more interesting than the finished product.  I'm still a big fan of Apocalypse Now though.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Tripe

I like Apocalypse Now though I do prefer Heart of Darkness.

Truly I wish that King Arthur film (was that actually its title come to think of it) with Clive Owen has been based on the little situation imagined by Marlowe at the beginning of the novella.

Would you guys believe when i told you I've chatted with some...uh...kids (Well they looked like teenagers to me, perhaps early 20's would be stretching it a bit.) who actually thought Epic Movie was the second coming of comedy?

you met my brother?!

That is why I hate these movies so much,he is always quoting them.

Even worse is when they try to persuade you or I, sensible people with a modicum of braincells in our heads, that those movies are drop dead hilarious.

Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Blade Runner.

2001: Space Oddesy. Just read the book. It's much more vivid, and you can read it in less time than it takes to watch the film.

Indeed (though I'm not that big a Spacey fan. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, because he's a great actor. It's just his roles rarely coincide with something that interests me).

Another movie: Wanted. For reasons unknown people seem to like this movie, which seems to me like some POS, glitzy version of Shoot 'Em Up (a far superior movie). It's derivative, stupid, not especially funny when it tires to be, takes itself too seriously otherwise (it's got a big magical loom for crying out loud! How on Earth can they treat it as seriously as they do!?), and is generally kinda dull.

Apologies for the mini-rant, I really do have a lot of frustration against that movie.

THANK YOU!!!

I am sick and tired of people waxing teary-eyed about the awesomeness of this retro-neitzchean, slow-motion-bullet and gore fap-fest.

I might be able to ignore the fact that the movie's "deep moral" is a bit, well, immoral. (Moral of the story: if your life sucks, you should go out and shoot a lot of peolpe.)  I might be able to swallow the rather ridiculous scifi elements inserted to make it even more "badass" (white blood cells do NOT help you heal, they just take care of infection, and there's no fucking way that a faster heartbeat can let you curve bullets and do all that crazy action movie shit, much less do anything other than make your capillary's burst). Nevermind that it brings up that old chesnut "healing factor so we can show lots of badass gore without losing characters", and apparently it's totally acceptable to inflict massive amounts of pain on your friends and collegues. Also, if you have a divine mandate from the bedsheets of inevitability, it's okay to cause massive property damage, traffic accidents, and any other sort of violent and large-scale collateral damage in pursuit of your target. I'm sure killing one really evil guy will outweight the harm done every time.

The unforgivable, worst problem at the heart of the movie is that its philosophical underpinnings have no internal logic. They undermine themselves.
"You should become a self-made, will-to-power, ubermensch/randian badass and do whatever you want,  otherwise you are a pussy. The best way to achieve this is to strive to live up to the standards of the father who left you as an infant and obviously didn't care about you and do whatever the tablecloth of fortune tells you to do, otherwise bad things will happen, because once somebody didn't kill a person because a magic rug told them to and that person did a very evil thing."

Did I mention if there's one thing I'll never get tired of, which rarely gets used in movies today, especially action or comic book type movies, it's a whiney, squeamish everyman guy geting superpowers due to his lineage or destiny and doing a whole bunch of wish fulfillment?

The Philadelphia Inquirer called this "an intelligent action movie." I'll never be able to trust it again.

Ha! Wanted was a fun little movie, but as soon as Morgan Freeman uttered the line "loom of destiny", my brain immediately shut itself down as it knew it wasn't needed for the next 90 minutes or so.
