Doctor Who?

Hey has anyone ever figured out what Han meant when he said "the ship that made the cessle run in less then 12 parsects"

Isn't that a measurement or space not time?

He was referring to "Parseks", which in the Star Wars universe are time-related.

Doctor Who?

You're kidding right.

Not even Lucass could come up with something that lazy.

Maybe Luke can't see in the helmet because he's not one of those clones....his head is shaped normally?

But then again, Han doesn't seem to have a problem.  Hmmmm?

Going back to this... Han probably didn't have trouble seeing in them because according to some of the novels (yeah, I read them... sad, I know) he was an imperial at one point in the crazy Star Wars time line.

And Doc, he's not kidding.

I was joking.

I was 12 when the SEs came out and it was a big deal, until I saw what Lucass had done to them.

And I was just taking the opportunity to point out Billy Dee's lack of rhythm :P

Oh and actually there is a fecking asinine explanation for the parsec thing somewhere in the EU. Imrahil told me about it a while back and it's still dull as Purgatory on Wednesday.

I remember hearing  wanky explanation for it at one point, but I don't remember what it is.  Something to do with the navigation systems.

Me, I just think he was lying to make himself sound impressive.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Ah now it's comming back, it's something about the Kessle run being a route around a black hole or some such shite.

Yeah, that was the explaination....that Han was throwing gobbly-gook at them thinking he was going to impress the local hicks.

There was also a theory that he was too dumb to really know the difference and he was THAT dependent on Chewy to run things....but later movies killed that and backed up the "blowhard" explaination.

Pak-Man

It was something about how in order to make the kessel run, the course would run you right through a hazzardous something-or-other, and the closer you got to the something-or-other, the more dangerous the run would be, but the shorter the distance. Han, therefore, got impressively close to the something-or-other, reducing the number of parsecs he needed to travel.

That's the EU explanation I was talking about :)

I don't know if Lucas himself ever explained it, but this was the reason given in one of the novels (Darksaber I believe) where right near Kessel was a cluster called "The Maw" that was actually a cluster of black holes who's gravitational fields almost intersected.  Most smugglers steer as far from it as possible for obvious reasons, but Han plotted a course that was less that 12 parsecs because he was crazy like that.  This is still a boast about the Falcon's speed because he had to maintain escape velocity while so close to the black holes.

A lot of work to explain something that could have been fixed with one word (I think some versions like the novel of the movie etc just changed "Parsecs" to "standard time units"

See that's one of the things I liked about Battlestar Galatica, at least they had their own made up time units. Not a lot of work went into them admittedly but at least a little did.

Chaos

Look, it's really simple. It's pure genetics. The FIRST storm troopers were all clones of a single person. So they had the same abilities as their clone source (Jango Fett). But now, all the storm troopers we have are the result of inbreeding between all of those clones and the women who thought storm troopers were cool. The imperial gene pool was ruined by lack of diversity, hence all current storm troopers suck ass. QED.

Still doesn't explain Boba's uselessness, unless the act of picking his own dead father's head drove him into an alcoholic depression that killed all his abilities.
