The thing is, I'm not even that into Star Wars.  Not since the prequels, anyway.

I have to admit that I used to be... I know way more about it than I should.....

Maybe the empire puts all it's money into ships! So really they can't afford to train the troopers to shoot or even get them decent armor. So they buy mass amounts of plastic and mold it into armor-looking shapes and tell the troopers that it'll actually stop a laser. So the troopers - thinking they're invincible - charge into battle figuring they have nothing to lose by not aiming and shooting like mad hoping that they're spray-and-pray might actually hit something against all odds. All the while trusting their nice plastic armor.
Yeah, if this doesn't make sense to anyone else either, it's been a long day and I need some sleep....

In the prequels the Stormtroopers are killing machines.  There must have been some kind of flaw in their manufacture where after 20 years their skills denigrate.  Just a few decent shots from a few stormtroopers could have ended the rebellion.  I blame those gray aliens with the little heads.

The whole degradation in quality thing does seem to make sense, since the cloners no longer had access to the original host after Episode II and Jango's death...

but then, Boba's a first generation clone and he was pretty much worthless in battle too.

Maybe it's something to do with them all being clones. Copying from a copy reduces quality, so maybe they were all inbred and retarded by Luke's time.

So Multiplicity logic.  Do Stormtroopers have trouble drinking Coke, call everyone Steve, and just want pizza all the time?

Uh, why did you bring that up. The goggles! They do nothing!

Oh, one more thing.  After a while, the Empire stopped with the whole all-clone army thing, allowing some to join (or be cloned) as political favors, while also using conscription to fill the "lesser" ranks.

God, why do I know that?

I mean, half the time I can't remember where everything in my own kitchen is, but I read some useless trivia once and it becomes stuck in my head forever.  GAAAAAAH!

Maybe Luke can't see in the helmet because he's not one of those clones....his head is shaped normally?

But then again, Han doesn't seem to have a problem.  Hmmmm?

Doctor Who?

Maybe the Storm Troopers aren't clone by episode IV and they are all members of Greedo's race.

Only if they're clones of Greedo's race from the Special Edition.

Which - as any real SW fans knows - don't really exist.

Incidentally, even in the SE the second shot doesn't sound to me like Greedo shooting first, it sounds like the reflexive twitch of Greedos finger after he's already been shot.

Doctor Who?

Wait what are we talking about?

What's a Special Edition?

Back in the late 90s Lucas released the original trilogy with new bits added, most of those new bits were extraneous and added little or nothing to the plot. One of the big things was adding an extra shot in the scene where Han shoots Greedo making it look, purportedly, like Han was being less of a bastard.

But of course that's why we like Han, because he's a bastard.

Oh and in all the changes made for the SE, they couldn't have spend a little bit of time to give Lando some rhythm at the end so he could clap along in time to the nub-nub song? ;)

Doctor Who?

I was joking.

I was 12 when the SEs came out and it was a big deal, until I saw what Lucass had done to them.

It wasn't Han being a bastard.  It was him being a survivor in the Underworld of Tattooine.  Kill or be killed.

Of course, later we'd find out that he didn't want this life but under the Empire it was people like him had to do what he had to do or starve.

But that was back when Lucas was still telling us that he had all of this stuff plotted out ahead of time.....speaking of being a bastard.  ;)
