Why do they keep making these movies?

Hmm, maybe the reason these movies have audiences is because the people who go to see them can't read the reviews telling them how awful they are...

SILENT MOVIE

The first minute and a half will be completely silent, until a midget steps up and asks, "Wait, what's the point?  We can talk!"  And then the movie will progress much like a typical parody movie, except louder than the typical movie (because the midget broke the fourth wall), with more gross overacting, and every so often, a few screens with some inaccurate lines printed on them.  Plenty of actors will argue with the people who put those screens up, as well, believe you me.

What will they parody?  Well, pop culture.  What, you thought they'd go after silent movies?  Nobody gives a crap about silent movies, man!  It's all about the talkies!  Hi-def, man!  WHOOOOOO!!!

Again, it'd have to be a sequel...

OP, do I have to spell it out again, just why these movies are so cheap to make?

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the "people" behind Disaster Movie are in fact hideous half-human, half-insects. They have a parasitic life and must take cinematic offerings of others. Once they find a high-rated box office target, they attack the film, suck the life and laughter out of them until not a shred of depth, amusement, or entertainment remains, pile up the discarded husks, deficate upon them, and lay eggs in them. This grotesque pile is then ground up and mixed with the raw materials for celluloid and the result is the next Bloated Parody Franchise Movie.

What? It's the truth! You surely can't be jaded and cynical enough to believe actual actors, writers, and directors would participate in these travesties, are you? No. That's how they get made. It doesn't matter if its a flop. The actual cost to make, say, Meet the Spartans, is only the price for the celluloid used to create the original film reel and a few gallons of replacement bacilloplasm for the bubbling green vats that the film's creators rest in during the day.
Unfortunately, sunlight does not kill them, it only weakens them and prevents the use of their more potent psychic talents and black magic.

Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

Meh, I get crap from my friends because I'd rather watch a Saw than the Royal Tenumbalms, or I'd buy a DVD of Lost instead of 6 feet under.

That's some of the audience.  Some people see the movies and can admit that they are stupid, but can enjoy them because of how stupid they are, whether it's because they just like stupid comedies or are laughing at the general badness of the movie.  But then there are people that enjoy the movie for what it is.  Observe the following quote from another forum that I visit (name of poster and forum removed to protect the innocent):

QuoteMeet the Spartans wasn't bad - it's a parody and it was funny. Just 90 % of the people don't like parodies lol

Just in case you had any of that pesky "hope in today's youth" stuff.

Naaaaaaaaah!  It's old enough that people won't remember it.  The target audience is people who don't think beyond, "Well, gee, if it's in a comedy movie, it MUST be funny!"

Besides, you're assuming that people research these movies before they put them out.  I mean, heck, I know I didn't do a lick of research before I wrote this blurb.   ;)

If the 'greatest movie of all time' voting has shown us anything it's one person's masterpeice is another person's Weekend at Bernie's 2.

Because:

Epic Movie =  $86,844,745
Meet the Spartans = $84,558,676

Plus the DVD sales.  These movies aren't bombing.  They have a low budget, and probably double the studio's investment.
Just like all those ones that made our favorite cow-town puppet show possible.

Problem is, these can't be riffed on.

DVD sales is why Kevin Smith is still making movies.

When I worked at CDepot (think Record and Tape Traders, but there are only two of them), those movie movies sold like crazy.  So did Norbit.  This should tell you something about who buys these terrible DVDs: people who don't actually watch the movies before getting the DVD.
You're solid gold, I'll see you in Hell.

Doctor Who?

I saw the trailer for this on Monday and it was even worse then i thought.

I mean what is funny about a guy in a cheap costume saying "I am Iron Man"?!

They go after Hanna Montana for having to many CDs when this is their second movie this year!!

How is Sex and the City a Disaster Movie?!!

How is Enchanted a Disaster movie.

Hasn't Twister been done to death in comedies?!!!

Doctor Who?

Don't get me wrong Sex and the City is one of my five most hated things on the planet, but how did it get into a movie called Disaster Movie?!

mrbasehart

Easy.  They're not interested in relevance, they're interested in box-office.  Sex and the City is a recent movie, and more recognisable to parody than say, The Towering Inferno.
