Guy Ritchie signs on to Sherlock
Will write and direct reimagining of super sleuth

Guy Ritchie has signed on to write and direct a reimagining of super sleuth Sherlock Holmes for Warner Bros.

Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin are producing the movie, which takes its cues from a forthcoming comic that Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on the classic Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character. The concept sees the character be more adventuresome and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and mines on more obscure character traits.

The studio has developing a new Holmes for a while, at one point having Neil Marshall ("Descent") on board to direct and Michael Johnson to write.

Ritchie will rewrite and polish Johnson's script.

The deal reteams the filmmaker with the studio, for whom he made the upcoming crime caper "RocknRolla." Warners is said to be high on the movie, which is being released in October. Ritchie is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

Jon Berg and Elishia Holmes are overseeing.

I'm in support of this but not because of one note hack Guy Ritchie.  I always like to see a new Sherlock Holmes because I believe he's a timeless enough character ripe for reinterpretation.  Case in point:  Rupert Everett bringing all sorts of sexy to Holmes with his PBS turn a couple of years back.
I'm all out for kicks...and every inch of me spells EXCITEMENT!

Yeah I wish they'd done more of those.

God I hate Guy Richie but I will see this for exactly the same reason as Pretty.

Have you read The Mandala of Sherlock Holmes?

Was that the Tibetan one?  If that's the one I'm thinking of than the answer is no but I remember being intrigued by a review likening it to a Quartermain adventure.

I also hate Guy Ritchie, so I'm not really that hopeful for the movie.  A pity that Rupert Everett's characterisation never took off, as I quite enjoyed that one.

Kenneth Morgan

Sounds like they're having another crack at a "Young Sherlock Holmes" idea (Holmes as Indy).

Meh, Lock Stock and Snatch are both VERY fun movies.

I really rather like that film, sure it screws with the history of the characters but I like it.

The only thing I would have enjoyed as an addition would have been a scene with Mycroft worked in somehow. (Ann won't let me name a son Mycroft, booooo  >:( )

Next best thing: Mycroft would be a bitching name for a pet

I'd like Guy Ritchie to "reimagine" me mooning both him and his stupid idea.
