In all seriousness, I'd be willing to answer your questions as well.  I don't know if you'd rather hear it from Bill or not, but I've been around since day 1 and could shed some light on whatever needs light shedding upon.  Would have to wait til tomorrow to find out some specific data, but if you want, I can help.  Don't want to overstep Bill on the thread though.

I understand that sales figures are and should be protected but we're really curious on which of the trax have sold the best and which ones have sold the worst and how far the gaps really are.  With such a small portion of your customers weighing in on the forum it gets lost where the opinions on the product as a whole really are.  The polls on the front page that say "which of these would you like to see riffed?" are pretty much all the feedback from the masses that we get.

I wonder if a Rifftrax for Star Wars: A New Hope would satisfy everyone or no-one? :)

I'm still waiting on an answer for my Departed question

Haven't seriously taken a look at it after we did those clips with Lowtax.  I think it'd be fun, though it's kind of on the long side.  I'd like to do a best picture winner at some point in time.  Do you think a lot of people own it?  Nobody really seems to talk about it any more.

One possible solution, something that was suggested way waaaay back, and I don't know if it's even feasible, is subscriptions.

Maybe you could get enough people to subscribe for X amount of trax, or months or whatever, and then you'd have carte blanche to do what ever movies you wanted.

I WOULD subscribe.

(I hope this doesn't stir up a whole new hornets nest)

I'd subscribe without a second thought. Sign me up for the 6 years option.

Poor, hence they aren't making them.

I saw the 80% figure.  I said i was curious of the sales of B&W on Demand vs. 80's riffs.  Not 80's riffs vs. New Releases.

QuoteIf 20% of us are prepared to buy all rifftrax releases, we have to make up for the 80% difference in sales. So out $3.99 track becomes $19.95.

How many people do you think are going to pay that?!

I sure won't.

I'm not saying that I expect the 20% to make them dead even with the New Releases, just profitable enough to still get them, and maybe a little more frequently.

I own it. It wouldn't be high on my list of choices though.

A genre that seems to be a winner every time is the comic book movies.

Is this true of the sales?

I'd say that's the kind of movie a lot of people own.

Without giving away too much, this is already being looked into, not for this current site but for the next - so it's still a ways out. But a great suggestion, and you're right - that might help leverage some of this stuff Only way to tell is once it actually happens, however.

All right, I have to ask.

During the last DaPenguin game, one of the webpages stumbled upon contained a picture from Red Dawn, with the single word "when?"  This hint led to the webpage with the ending "/never."  Now, I'm curious.  Does the "never" refer to "Commies will NEVER take invade the US" or "we will NEVER riff Red Dawn"?

If the latter, were you being facetious, or were you being serious?

If the latter, once again, AWW, C'MON!  WHY NOT?!

gammer

I know allot of you around here think I'm just some 'hammy Canadian', but let me add my 2 cents (two Canadian cents...which is worth pretty much the same as 2 American cents now).

I totally understand that the newer releases sell the best and margins are slim. But, ask any entrepreneur, they'll tell you that when you start a business, margins will be slim. No secret there.

Anyway, if RiffTrax only looks at riffing new releases, because they do the best, then its very narrow/short sited in the health of RiffTrax. My feeling is that you need to have a 'loss leader' every once in a while. This will add to the much talked about variety and keep some of the obscure-movie-liking folks happy and bring over-all good health to RiffTrax for years to come.
BTW, when I look at the list of releases, there is some good variety overall. Anyway, lets continue...

Also, I'm not totally sold on the fact that older stuff doesn't sell well....well I believe RiffTrax when they say that their past, older stuff doesn't sell, because they have hard facts to back that up. But I think its the choice of movies and because they were Mike solo's That they didn't do well. Perhaps older, but easy to obtain on DVD stuff would sell a bit better (notice I said a bit, because I know it wont sell as good as the new stuff). I'm thinking of titles like Titanic, The X-Files, Red Dawn....and I'm drawing a blank. But just imagine a huge long list of older, but easy to obtain movies, and then you feel satisfied that I've made my point  ;)

Lets look at an example...in my mind it would look like this:
What about the X-Files movie?
Well...
-There are lots of X-Files fans on the forum, because I've seen several 'geek-out' threads on the subject
- Its been suggested in the suggest-a-thread
- The second X-Files is coming out soon, so there is already some buzz about the subject
- Its Sci-Fi, which obviously sells better
- It can be obtained easily on DVD (and pretty cheap at that too)
- If we bring in Kevin and Bill, it will sell even better

In conclusion, I know RiffTrax 'gets it' on the variety subject. Lets all be patient and respectful and enjoy anything that gets released. Because just over 2 years ago, we'd give our sternums just to get any riffing from Mike, Kevin and Bill...and now look at us....we have a plethora of Riffing to choose from  ;D

I'm pretty sure the three threads here answer that already.
