Here's the story:

So, which IS the most inaccurate??

I'd do the poll on which is the most riffable because of it, but some of these have already been done and I'm sure the rest of the list are on the steps to the chopping block anyway...  ;D

Doctor Who?

I think The Advetures of Robin Hood should be on that list.

It's a great movie but everyone is where armor and using weapons that were not invented for another 100 to200 years, also i don't remember prince John taking power and having to be dethroned by King Richard in real life.

I voted for The Patriot.

This is coming for someone who like ID4,StarGate and parts of Godzillia...

What a bunch of Crap!

I'd forgotten to add the "Other" catagory....sorry!

2001 wasn't even close.  Where is my video phone?  No monolith on the moon!  No HAL9000!

Where's the King Arthur movie from 2001? Way worse than Braveheart or Gladiator in most senses of the word.

Pak-Man

I haven't seen it yet (And still kind of want to) But I gotta give it to 10,000 B.C. Nothing says historically inacurate like doing things 7000+ years out of order. :^)

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

The nerve!  Putting 2001: A Space Odyssey on that list!

That was speculative writing...not taking something in the past and twisting to your whim.   As they've said in MST3K, "Oh, our Old Future".  This list gripes at the other movies for not sticking to the facts.....there were no "facts" about 2001 when 2001 was made!

Their point about Memoirs of a Geisha "mizuage" - they're wrong about that and so was the movie.  The movie used the word as a synonym for Sayuri's virginity.  This article makes it sound like it was her training.  Mizuage is actually a ceremony that signifies a maiko's coming of age.  It's like a Sweet Sixteen party.   There's lots of things the movie gets wrong or glosses over for time and to keep it's illusion of beauty (much like the Geisha) but that and Sayuri's dance were the least of it.  It's worth it to read the book (despite Golden's writing "style").

I didn't see the latest one but....lots of Alamo movies belonged on here if they say that Crockett had "Ol Betsy" with him (he left that with a friend).

And where is Marie Antonette on this list?

Jason Martian

Out of those one that list... 300 for sure!  I mean come on... all the monsters and things... unlike most of the others on the list that are merely inaccurate, 300 was complete fantasy.

And how about films like Clash of the Titans?  Hahaha...

Clash of the Titans (Jason and the Argonauts, Golden Voyage of Sinbad is mythology.

Guess what....The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, King Kong, First Men in the Moon and War of the Worlds aren't historically accurate, either.   ;)

Another interesting list at Yahoo Movies - The 10 Most Mismatched Movie Couples...

QuoteHayden Christensen & Natalie Portman
Star Wars - Episode II and Episode III - 2002/2005
After watching the uncomfortable scenes with Natalie Portman and 10-year-old Jake Lloyd in The Phantom Menace, Star Wars fans everywhere thought, "It can't get worse than this." Oh, how little they knew. For the next two prequels, they were faced with Portman and Christensen stiffly reciting George Lucas' leaden dialogue. When the giant lizard Obi-Wan rides is more convincing than their romance, it's enough to make you want to scream "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

You forgot to list Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor. My Mom had a friend who was actually THERE during the attack and she said the movie is a gross misrepresentation. I've met several other folks who were there as well and all said the same thing. In fact, they've all said that ALL the movies about Pearl Harbor are innaccurate.

Doctor Who?

How old are your mom's friends?

I didn't think there were many WW2 vets alive.

I wasn't even there and even i could tell how bad that movie was when I first saw it.

I dunno.. I'm gonna have to go with Lord of the Rings. I mean, the hobbits looked nothing like Homo floresiensis. And the Shire? Not nearly enough vegetation. Yeesh. I don't expect much from movies these days, but seriously...

They're...er....really really old. She's always hung out with older folks.  There are a good number of WW2 vets still around, although they're starting to get outnumbered by Korean War vets nowadays. I had the priviledge of getting to know a number of them at my old job. Nice folks, all of them. They tell the most fascinating stories ever. One gentleman in particular told me all about Pearl Harbor on account of having been there. He had a palm tree tattooed on his forearm with "Pearl Harbor" underneath it as a memorial for the friends he lost there.

If 2001 counts on such a list, then in a few years, the most historically inaccurate film will be Back to the Future Part II.

bettertomorrowamy

Well 2001 is the only one we know for sure is completely inaccurate since we actually lived through the events of 2001.
