I am in the midst of writing 2 papers for a Pat Sayjak lookalike professor who when she dies(should be soon, she lives with cats) I plan to wait until the perfect moment at her funeral and blow a party favor, so I have not had time to check if this question has been asked.

I am wearing womens deodorant.  It smells better than guy stuff and makes me feel as if I've just gotten action with a very persperation free female.  What is your opinion on this practice?

Prydonian

Hi, Mike!  Look, I know this question may sound naive, and if asked ten years ago it would have been.  And I'm sure the immediate response from most will be, "Well, we just can't do that," for which I'm sure there may be good reasons.  But I just have to ask... though many may have asked before, I know not...

What with Rifftrax and the Film Crew, and now that MST3K.com is trying their level best to return the SOL and the Bots to life, and with Joel and Co. doing Cinematic Titanic, I can't help but notice that ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE ever involved in MST3K is currently essentially doing MST3K again.  Except that, excellent as it all is, each individual chunk naturally lacks some of the charm of the original for want of those components of which one of the other chunks has ownership.  So... why doesn't everyone just start the show back up?  Online?  No one would even have to change their existing individual projects, it could all just continue as is, but with the addition of a downloadable episode of the show episode here and there.   Sure, you'd have to rebuild some sets, but still...

It just seems like you guys are all every bit as keen to keep doing exactly this wonderful thing as we, the audience, are to watch it.  So... why not?  Since the show's sudden cancellation, its return has always seemed vaguely inevitable... it's too strong and too lovable a concept to ever really die, as all this activity seems to prove.  So why not now?

Just a thought.  Thanks!

Andy

Right on I am with you except for one thing, they are already doing this or did I miss something?  All except for the funny breaks between commercial's and the movie oh and them physically sitting in the theatre watching the movie they have and are pretty much doing what they do best.  True it would rule if they did come back as a tv series for all of us to watch but hay my granny alway's said " Boy you can wish in one hand and sneeze in the other but either way you eventually have to wash your hands"

to Mike
Your a nice guy this is true but has anyone a fan ( fanatic ) ever just drove you to the point that you just wanted to slap the beejeezas out of them or pull a SNL moment like Shatner and tell them to get a life and stop living in their parent's basement, to stop dressing like the char's from the show, to stop eating macaroni and cheese, to stop making macaroni art of you and the robot's, to stop asking you to say a famous line at convention's, to get out and breathe the air, to go meet a woman or man and stop following you, that your lawn isn't a campsite for groupies, .... please kill me I'm on a Shatner loop .... to boldly go to the store and get a job, go to school and learn english, to stop wasteing time searching for part's to build their own robot's, my god man I have seen youtube video of the robot's that someone created in his work room ( parent's carport ) I just can't stop talking like Shatner .... Kahnnnnnnn!!!!!!

LOL hope that wasn't toooooo off the wall but I did thoroughly enjoy typing it and do really want to know your take on it

Thanks
When life hits you hit it back HARD !!!!

To Prydonian:

I think the best we can hope for is the occasional Rifftrax/CT crossover guest riffer. As I (and many other fans, I'm sure) have said; It'd be great to have Mike and Joel sit down next to each other and riff a flick together. I honestly don't care on which project this happens, as long as it does happen.

And to repeat myself yet again, this issue really ought to be addressed in the next podcast or else it's just going to appear that Mike is dodging the issue.

Prydonian

That does seem the most likely outcome... but again I must wonder why?  If everyone's amenable, I don't see anything stopping them... by which I mean rights or distribution issues.

Anyway, as to the whole Cinematic Titanic/Rifftrax issue... yeah... I get the feeling that Mike is a very private person.  I remember back in the days of regular SciFi Channel MST chats, he was exceptionally skilled at wittily sidestepping questions that in any way addressed his personal feelings on an issue.  It's so elegant it's like brilliant verbal sleight-of-hand... much like he did it in the recent interview where he was asked about this very topic.  And if that's the way he'd rather keep it, then I suppose it would be rude of us to push.  I don't wan't to accidentally start a big conversation about it, because goodness knows where that could go, but I would like to post here what I said on Slashdot's recent "ask Joel" thingy.  Which I have no idea if they've actually done yet... anyway!  Here's what I was thinking following a few expressions of concern on the subject.

Honestly, while I know that it may represent something of an intrustion into the private lives of those involved, I really do feel that this question is a pertinent one. The thing about the MST environment is that it has always been friendly... as a viewer, the sense of community, not just amongst the fans but observable amongst the cast members as well, has been one of the truly unique and loveable things about the show. While so many sources of humor are based in anger or the pain of others, MST3K presented a wellspring of good-natured, likeable humor, and that has always been a large part of its appeal. Here we have some genuinely clever, genuinely nice people who clearly love what they do, and they invite you to enjoy it with them. As such, we naturally want to know that those involved really do get along with each other... we've heard the stories about the show's formation, and we know they've all been friends. When cast members left the show it was always because they wanted to move on, not because there had been some enormous conflict. There's never been any intimation of animosity before, not so much as a hint, so it's naturally a little disturbing to find them divided like this. I hope that someone involved will choose to address it, simply because it's going to haunt fans if left to our imaginations and potentially cast a pall over both groups' projects. Though it is something of a personal question, we MSTies have been watching and laughing with these guys for a couple of decades now... we think of them as our friends, and we want to know if everything's alright.  I'm not suggesting they owe us an explanation, it would just be... well, nice!

The whole thing is just odd. I remember Trace was asked in an interview recently if he might be willing to guest-star on a Rifftrax, and he seemed surprised and confused by the whole concept. Mary Jo has done Rifftrax, and seems to be close to everyone involved, so it's hard to believe there's any real dislike between them... to say nothing of Joel's appearance in the final season of MST. But then at no point since their project's announcement have the Cinematic Titanic guys in any way acknowledged the existence of Rifftrax or the Film Crew, which comes across as a little disingenuous... it feels as though they're pretending not to know the other group exists at all.  And then of course there's Paul, about whom I've been wondering for years, who seems to have signed on with the MST3K.com site. It feels oppresively like there's something no-one wants to say. All I want to know is, does everyone still get along? Does there have to be some kind of rivalry between them? Some acknowledgement of the issue would really put the fans at ease, I think, so we can all enjoy the riffing.

Er... and that's all from me.  Yes, I talk too much. :)

The Short answer is No One wants to work with Jim (who owns MST3K).

A slightly longer answer. The way I see it is. They are all collegues. But Joel, Trace and Josh are friends. And I think Mike, Kevin and Bill are friends. So when projects come up they've naturally worked together (StarWait for Joel, Trace and Josh. The Film Crew for Mike, Bill and Kevin). RiffTrax is an option in the CT survey BTW.

Since there are 11 pages of questions, I hope this one wasn't on one of them. If it was, I apologize:

Mike, will you ever write a book chronicling the entire history of MST3K from your perspective (meaning from the point you got involved)? Sort of like a "making of" book with also a detailed look at the selection of movies and stories behind them (kind of like the Episode Guide book, although that only covered 6 seasons).

I ask this because Mike is very good at writing books and I think we would all like to hear his version of the "Story of MST3K".

Ahhhh... I've been wondering about Jim for a long time.  I always felt like there was some bad blood there, but I wasn't sure.  Is that in fact the case?

Wait... there's a CT survey?  Do tell!

Hey Mike,

I have noticed on a few occasions on MST3K that you had mentioned the late Frank Zappa and or The Mothers Of Invention, including the episode where T.V's Frank died, you had an homage to Frank Zappa. Did you decide to kill T.V's Frank because Frank Zappa died? Or was it sheer happenstance?

The modern day composer refuses to die!

Thank you  ;D

Wow, that's actually a good question!

Thanks! I hope Mike answers it!
