Mike, on MST3k, did you guys put much thought into the characters?  For instance, when you were playing the "character" Mike Nelson, did you get into the character's head, so to speak?  Do any excercises like developing a backstory for him, who his parents are, what his passions are, what his dreams and goals are?  That kinda thing?  What about with Torgo?  Or your Observer character?

Hello Mr. Nelson. Can I call you Mike? Anywhoo, I know that Road House is your favorite bad movie. I'm just wondering what could that movie have done to make you dislike it instead of treasuring it like you do. Cause the movie took itself very seriously, and I know that that's why it's a good bad movie. But what could it have done to put it in the just plain bad category as opposed to the it's so bad it's good category?
Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

Mike;
My question revolves around what may well be our first ever deaf member of the roundtable forums.  From what I gathered from his post, either on his own, or by being prompted by his wife, he registered using the screen name 'frankthetank'  Obviously, this is going to present some unique challenges.  I offered what was little more than an educated guess as to what measures could be taken, my response to him was as follows:

"Now there's a unique challenge for Mike and the rest if ever I did see one. The only thing that I can think of is if and when either RiffTrax, or more probably Sharecrow get a move on and finish work on a media player that will automatically  synch up the DVD and the MP3 commentary.  Then again it'd also have to provide subtitles for both, while at the same time differentiating them one from another.  Man torgos, this one time I deffinitely don't envy you, ..

Well I thought that was meant to be a joke, considering the Mystery Science DVDs arent subtitled, and you would need both the film and the riffing subtitled, and I don't think there are any fan subtitle projects are really going, so how would that have got into it in the first place..

Anyway, my question for mike would be, do you feel guilty that since you are encouraging us to rent and buy these terrible movies that you are now contributing to their 'sucess', and therefore encouraging the studios to make more!

Mike,

I was wanting to ask if in the creation of the MST3K Model Kit (put out my Janus a couple of years back) if the sculptor had actually seen a picture of you before beginning their work or simply drew from "eye witness accounts" of people who may have seen you shopping at Cub Foods?

Thanks for a decent first batch of questions. We'll be starting another thread to take more questions shortly.
