googergieger

meh. i don't care for personal shite either.

but when it comes down to it a comic about a crime drama or something of the like is better than a super hero comic for me.

i'm just incredibly tired of bad marvel movies, well didn't really need to add the bad in there i suppose.
Stand by for action!

Oh, and according to Favreau, only the aerial bits toward the end of that clip are CG.

Ooh. As a Kaiju fan, that's something I can appreciate. (They try to avoid using CG whenever possible, instead relying on cleverly constructed suits.)

The Irontech armor is a real costume built by Stan Winston studios:

Okay, so are they gonna explain why his eyes glow? Cause you just can't see through anything that is glowing, in my experience. Light has to go in, not out. Just saying.

That's not really surprising given how realisitc C-3P0 looked - and that was 30 years ago.....

I do remember "Iron Man" from the comic covers and it is a very cool take on the original characters armor.   Modern but not a total re-invention.

Now, whether or not Downey is ever actually in the costume at all during physical parts of the film......   ;)

I imagine it's a scrawny but strong man under teh armor.

And really, it's not a re-design at all. Stark's armor kept changing in the comics- this is as likely to be the next one as not. It's all about the face and the colors, really.

This is the Iron Man I remember.  Squarer armor and primary colors.  Nipples that would make Joel Schumacher drool....    ;)   Actually, I don't remember that...but looking at this drawing....    :o

I'm just glad they're keeping him close to classic.  I don't think any comic book film made money playing to only the current fanbase.

There's lots of people who read this as a kid but haven't kept up.  Make the character unrecognizable to them and they'll skip this movie.

There are little video screens behind the mask's eyes that Stark sees through, which seems a helluvalot safer than leaving his precious, soft, squishy eyeballs vulnerable through two big slits in his otherwise invulnerable armor. Look, kids! It's the Invincible (except for his eyes) Iron-Man! And why do the eyes glow? Because it looks cool, duh. ;D

Not to be that guy, but what exactly is square about the above armor? It looks pretty round and inexplicably form-fitting to me.

Anyway, the movie armor was designed by Adi Granov, the artist who designed Iron Man's current armor in the comics. They're nearly identical:

The only major difference is the circular light on the chest, which I prefer, since the triangular or pentagonal ones always seemed a little too similar to Superman.

The helmet.  And the boots...and other parts of the armor....the way they don't just smoothly run together on the new one.

And the unrealistic parts of any superhero outfit just goes with the territory.   ;)

Haha Shark hates to be that guy, and I hate to be that girl - but what is this movie going to be about exactly?  Is it going to be another origins story?  I'm not as psyched for this movie as I want to be.

Yeah, they DID just do an animated movie about him too, didn't they? Hope this one adds something new to the origin story. And subtracts all the magical crap. I don't have a problem with magic, but everything has it's place.

See in the logic of the studios the only way you can tell a Superhero story is an origin story. The uninitiated can get into it and it allows the fanboys/girl the thrill of the big reveal of the costume and other paraphernalia.

I wish they'd try something els sometimes though.

It's novel, I know.  It's probably a sign that sales for the books are down.

Actually, since Marvel's Civil War and the new World War Hulk series... Iron Man is one of the most popular characters right now. The hype from the movie is only going to push him over the top.

The only problem that i have with origin-story movies, is that they tend to cover way too much material in an hour and a half. Usually they have to simultaneously create a super-villian at the same time as well. So the character goes from being a nobody to a super-hero with an arch nemesis in about 30minutes. If it's done well, it could be great. But it usually isn't... Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, etc.

Anyway, Iron Man is one of my favorite characters. And he looks so damn cool... I hope this movies turns out great~

Think they'll have the guts to have a killer ringed Maderine as the villain?
As long as it's not Paste Pot Pete, I'll be fine, I suppose.

I don't see how you could do a first Iron man movie without the origin story, as its so key to Stark's character. If he handn't been wounded, he never would've needed the doohickey keeping him alive, and so never would've created the armor and become a superhero. I think it's important to show that development from egotistical capitalist weapons manufacturer, to, well, egotistical capitalist superhero. This movie should be as much, if not more, about Tony Stark as Iron Man. Plus, if they didn't do the origin, we wouldn't get to see the sweet Mark I armor:

Why you gotta be dissin' the Trapster?  ;)

Jon Favreau says the Madarin's the key villain in the movie, but I haven't heard anything else about him. He should be tough to put onscreen. I like the idea of a villain utilizing the one power source on Earth Stark can't wrap his head around - magic - but the Mandarin's always been pretty silly. Who knows? Maybe they'll reinvent the character to make him relevant again. And the fanboys will bitch and moan...

We do know that Jeff Bridges is playing Obadiah Stane, though. And Sam Jackson's Nick Fury, which is too cool for words.

Hey, Torgos, can we get this thread merged with this one?
