Hey, Torgos, can we get this thread merged with this one?

<sniff> I'm deeply hurt......

Was Mandrin originally a magic villain? Weren't his rings basede on alien technology, or was the written in later to explain them?

But yeah, I would love to see a live action movie that didn't wuss out when it came to magic.

I don't see how you could do a first Iron man movie without the origin story, as its so key to Stark's character. If he handn't been wounded, he never would've needed the doohickey keeping him alive, and so never would've created the armor and become a superhero.

Yeah, but just for once couldn't the movie start with the hero already in business and then tell the origin in flashback?

Burton's Batman came closest.  And it left out all the boring details about how you make a cowl by buying different pieces from different companies through front companies.... unlike a recent retelling.   ::)  Wayne's a billionaire - he found a way to do it and he can afford it.  I don't need a minute-by-minute account of how he managed all these little details.

So like daredevil?....hmmm ... :P

I think the green arrow movie will be like that if they get it off the ground, the plot is about Oliver Queen getting arrested and thrown in a maximum security prison and having to use his skills to survive.  I think they'll have to have a bunch of flashbacks in it with him making a bow out of bits in the prison - flashback to the island, him getting in a fight - flashback to training, etc could work out well.

If they ever do a big JLA or Avengers movie they'd have to ignore some of the heroes' origin's completely I'd think, "this guy can run real fast, just go with it. We'll explain why if he's popular enough to get a spin-off movie"

Just because they did it badly doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

If you went by that logic there would have only been one Star Trek movie.

Well I didn't say that it shouldn't be tried...I agree with you, that's why I explained the Green Arrow movie and said it could be good.  I'm just saying that they may need something a bit more.

I'd like to see a superhero film do the Indiana Jones/James Bond thing and start off with the hero in the middle of fighting some sub-super-villan right at the start, then  go the opening credits, then onto the main plot.

So in Supermax is it the Green Arrow who is thrown into prison or Oliver Queen?

Hmm - a Green Arrow movie...

You know, if the Black Canary becomes a live-action character, it'll be hard to distinguish her from the regular hookers. ;)

Uh, I'm not sure...I just assumed that one of the police officers would take off his little mask thingy at some point...

Well yes and that would be much more problematic than say Queen being arrested for something incidental to being Green Arrow. See what I mean?

Then the "disappearance" of the hero might be a story line as well.

Douglin

Oh I get you now.... I don't know

Seems like if it was meant to be Queen without them knowing he was Green Arrow, why would they put him in Maximum Security?  As a millionaire playboy I don't think he'd end up there.

If he was unmasked then it would make more sense for him to be there, with the villains trying to get revenge and what-not BUT any future sequels would be a bit more of a problem.

I wonder how they'll do it, when I first heard about it I didn't particularly like it, it almost seemed like it was an idea for a daredevil sequel that they'd turned around and sold to DC after the 1st one sank.  But I think it could end up being pretty good and a nice twist on the comic-book movie standard.

But he's also a politician right? (got to say my familiarity with Green Arrow is not so great) Theres some incarceration potential there.

While I liked Burton's approach (although not the actual origin itself; having a young joker shoot Bruce Wayne's parents is L-A-M-E, and was only wedged into the script after Jack Nicholson was cast), having the story start from the absolute beginning is, I think, integral to what Nolan was trying to do: remove ALL association with the previous films, and rebuild the mythology from the ground up.

You mean like Batman Forever?   >:D
