Did anyone else groan when they started the riff to Iron Man? That just seemed way too cliche for me.

Not to me, but then again, I'm at work and my computer as no sound here so........   Still, once it got to the "Iron Man" sequences at the end, holy crap that looks kool.

1) Never read one "Iron Man" comic in my life.   Big, big DC fan as a kid.  If I had the money, I read it.  Never got into Marvel just because I was growing out of reading comics (other than Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella) when they were getting big.

2) This trailer - to me - looks like any other trailer for a superhero film made since the advent of CGI.  And especially The Hulk.

3) What I got out of that was Downey (brilliant actor who I pray is still sober for his own sake) plays a brilliant, totally pompous ass who is basically a soulless dealer of Weapons of Mass Destruction.  He's the only one who survives some catastrophe and this makes him want to build himself a metal exoskeleton to fight.....somebody.   Who?  I don't know.  Why?  I don't know.  Because he has shrapnel near his heart....?

At this point, I'm not down on it.  But I'm not interested either.

Douglin

Well he got captured and had to make the first suit to escape from where he was being held.  The shrapnel near his heart, and car battery keeping him alive, means he can't just steal a gun and try to run for it he's gotta make some armour out of the bits of things they're making him work on.

To be fair this wasn't a trailer.  It was meant to pump-up a bunch of comic fans who already knew who Iron man was....mission accomplished I'd say.

Also the fact that it actually seems to have some good jokes helps raise it over quite a few recent Comic-book films.

See....I didn't get that out of that trailer at all.  Admittedly I had a problem understanding some of what was said.

Like I said.  They don't have me interested yet.  But I'm not thinking "Oh, god...here we go again"

Look, I just want to see a decent battle armor put on the screen. If they can deliver that without causing me pain when charicters talk, we'll be in business. Unfortunately, as a comic book movie, there's still a risk....

Sideswipe

It looks like it could be entertaining, to me anyway.  I'll be looking into this more as it gets closer to May.  I'll probably give this a watch.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

It's not coming out until May 2008?

Junkyard

That's what the trailer said. Or "sneak peak," anyway.

Oh, and according to Favreau, only the aerial bits toward the end of that clip are CG.

Those aerial bits WERE pretty sweet looking.

I guess I need to wait another 10 months then, huh.   Oh well, 300 and Hot Fuzz come out on DVD on Tuesday, so I can wait.

Ooh. As a Kaiju fan, that's something I can appreciate. (They try to avoid using CG whenever possible, instead relying on cleverly constructed suits.)

yawn for me, but never been a fan of the super hero fluff really. especially marvel.
Stand by for action!

Junkyard

For me, I like the superhero fluff in Superhero films more than the personal life crap. PLEASE DON'T HAVE STARK DANCE IN THIS FILM, MARVEL! YOU CAN'T DO IT FOR 3 MOVIES IN A ROW!
