As if it wasn't obvious before, this is a blatant attempt to make a new Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. I like the first two Pirates movies, so I'm not apposed to the idea. And at least they are not making Dwayne Johnson's character a quirky Jack Sparrow type. So I am somewhat interested.
But the fact that his character is not called Skipper Dan seems like a huge oversight.

Isn't the Jungle Cruise ride based on The African Queen? I've never seen it, but does it have supernatural elements? Because in the trailer those seem very reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean.

The African Queen does not have supernatural elements, but many of the other elements are the same as this.
