I listen to hours of music at work - projectors are loud and monotonous -

I stopped listening to music in the booth; I'm deathly afraid I'll not hear a projector having a problem.

Huh.  And as the years have gone by, I care less and less about that.  :)

We're running an interlocked Tamil rental right now, so it's kind of pins-and-needles around here.

Vladmir Horowitz - A mix of a bunch of songs he usually plays for encores. Here's a video of him playing his arrangement Variation on a Theme of Bizet's opera "Carmen". It's almost like listening to two people playing piano.

No, I'm not, this is another case like "Classical Education" isn't it? I know you are very au fait with Latin and Greek, but there are some terms you seem unfamiliar with.

Not my fault if people are misusing words. :)  "Classical Education" means the "liberal arts," I guess (which I think is a stupid system anyway, and fight constantly with people about).  Hardly anything actually Classical about it.

I mean if you like I can amend it to say Medieval Ecclesiastical Latin, if it's that important to you, but it is indeed still Ecclesiastical Latin.
It really isn't.  Dialects existed because of the vernacular in each of the countries influencing their Latin, but Ecclesiastical is, at best, a pronunciation, NOT a dialect.

That's patent bollocks, do you read any of the encyclicals? There's a whole department within the Vatican that keeps Ecclesiastical Latin going by making whole new words, it's not unlike the Académie Française in what it does for the language.

Oh and since you quoted Uncle Wiki and I'm loathed to do that to support a point (as a source of quick explanation it's fine but as a source to cite, not so much) but since it's in play:

QuoteThe Goliards used sacred sources like texts from the Roman Catholic Mass and Latin hymns and warped them to secular and satirical purposes in their poems. The jargon of scholastic philosophy also frequently appears in their poems, either for satirical purposes, or because these concepts were familiar parts of the writers' working vocabulary. Their satires were almost uniformly directed against the church, attacking even the pope. The Goliard were a protest movement and marked a distinct step in the growing criticism of Church abuses from within its own ranks.

QuoteThe pieces are almost entirely in Ecclesiastical Latin meter; a few in a dialect of Middle High German, and some with traces of Old French. Many are macaronic, a mixture of Latin and German or French vernacular. They were written by students and clergy about 1230, when the Latin idiom was the lingua franca across Italy and western Europe for travelling scholars, universities and theologians. Most of the poems and songs appear to be the work of Goliards, clergy (mostly students) who sent up and satirized the Church. The collection preserves the works of a number of poets, including Peter of Blois, Walter of Châtillon, and the anonymous one referred to as the Archpoet.

I mean this seems a silly thing to continue but I can if you like :)

You're missing the point though. Ecclesiastical is by definition a genre, and I"d argue that it later influences a certain pronunciation for understanding purposes, but a dialect? No.  If it's not written about church stuff, it's not ecclesiastical.  If they're in a "meter" that is ecclesiastical, that's merely parodic.  And whether or not the Vatican has a modern Academia Latina or whatever is irrelevant to what 15th century Germans were doing.  My wife-to-be studied with the Pope's Latinist last summer and says she can write to him (though she says "Reggie would think this whole coversation is a load of crap") if you like.

Anyway.

I'm back on the Andrews Sisters.  I don't really listen to "albums" most of the time though, just various .mp3s I have.  So, no point in finding an album cover of something that I'm only listening to 1 cut from.

You're both dumbasses!  Don't you know extended debates are only allowed if the subject is Transformers or Isaac?  :)

Catatonia - Way Beyond Blue

Cerys Matthews' voice is simply delicious.  If such a thing were possible, I would hump it with wild abandon.

It's damned near Ecclesiastical.
