It's one of the funner episodes of season 2 in my opinion.  It helps that while the movie is really lame, it is also quite lively and there are some good riffs.

"I can't believe it."
"I'm Iggy Pop."

The Starfighters. God, that is the worst movie on MST3K I have ever seen. It was so incredibly boring, plotless, and painful to watch. I'd rather watch Manos than that. I'd rather watch Mighty Jack than that. Hell, I'd rather watch an Uwe Boll marathon followed by the Star Wars Prequels followed by the Christmas Special than see Starfighters again. I would not want to see that painful drivel again in my life!

I used to think the same way the first time I watch The Starfighters. But I caught the show again during a rerun and I saw another layer to the show. I paid a lot more attention to the riffs and how it pertains to the current situation and found it a lot more enjoyable. With a movie like this, the writers had to push their creativity into overdrive. I find myself returning to it for no reason at all from time to time.

Iron Curtain

#614 San Francisco International. The movie was cheesy-yet-interesting. The Host Segments were great (such as Trace's six-pack and Mike Nelson as Steve Urkel). The riffs were A1 (especially "The answer, my friend, is 'Blow it out your ass!'" and "It's a box of Rush's new CD, Serum!"). I think I have a new #2 favorite episode!

I'm just saddened that this was on the bottom on the list of fans' choice for best MST3K episodes last turkey day marathon and not on top, where I thought it deserved it to be. Oh well. There's no accounting for taste.

It's a great episode. The riffing is especially good when the kid is flying the plane.
"Now just auger it into the Bay."

I just finished watching "Pod People" with my mom. It's my go-to episode when introducing people to Mystery Science Theater 3000. And you know what? It gets results, seeing as she loved the episode and is willing to watch another one with me tomorrow!

abosch

"Pod People" is a sort of gateway drug.

Pak-Man

Pod People was the episode that convinced me that the puppet show part of the show was worth watching. For my first 3 or 4 episodes, I skipped past the host segments, but the segments in this episode were so perfect it sold me on the whole package.

Superdome and City on Fire. Slowly making my way back through the  KTMA episodes after the release of episodes 1 and 2 recently. Skipped the Gamers flicks. Not great, but some episodes just as good as any of the season 1 episodes. These 2 while not great had a decent number of riffs compared to the first few episodes and would love to see them in better quality video.

Pak-Man

I'd never skip the Gamera episodes. I'd watch a Gamera movie even without the riffing. (And some of those KTMA episodes are pretty darned close to "without the riffing.")

Johnny Unusual

I disagree, with the exception of the delightfully loopy Gamera Vs. Guiron.

My office shut down for a couple of days due to the heating system shutting down last weekend and the temps in the offices lowering to the single digits by mid week, and the wife left town for a planned visit to see her mother, so over the last 4 nights/days I watched:
Monster A Go Go
Warriors of the Lost World
Zombie Nightmare
Werewolf
Merlin's Shop of Terrifying Borgnine Stories

And Rifftrax:
The Happening
MST3K Live Reunion Show
Megaforce

Monster A Go Go was a bit of a slog. Megaweapon rules. The Happening made me laugh the most and hardest.

Time of the Apes

"Sandy Frank! Sandy Frank! Here we go again!"

I Was A Teenage Werewolf - 809

"Get Detective Mark Fuhrman on the case!"
I just finished watching the OJ Made in America documentary...so this riff was well timed.
What a great and classic MST3K episode 8)
