I thought that too, I was also trying to come up with something along the lines of "get your hands off me you damn dirty reaper" but those things are mean and tasteless, so I can never post them ever

I don't think there's anything wrong with good natured humor when something like this happens. As long as no one's "haha i'm glad your dead" or anything.

I just found out about Mr. Heston this morning, and I am truly saddened to hear about his passing.

I loved his films, but one performance in particular that always struck me was the night that he hosted Saturday Night Live. He was incredibly funny on the show, even doing a send up of the NRA, where he does a commercial for rent-a-gun store, kinda like a video store, finishing with "Be kind, reload!". There were a lot of great sketches on that episode, but I think my favorite was the psycho bag boy sketch.

I even remember him appearing on an SNL anniversary show where he came out and read an example of the hate mail the show got over the years. As it turns out, the letter was originally written BY Heston years earlier.

I'm gonna miss him.

Am I a bad person when the first thing I thought when I heard the news was "Well, they can finally take his gun now."

Only if I'm a bad person for wondering when the Heston-flavored Soylent Green is going to come out.

I tip my hat to you madame for possibly the most audacious joke yet.

:D

Is it me or has there been quite a long string of movie deaths lately?

I decided to write an entry in my LJ (which has seen more active days) on this.

I don't know, I think more movies should die. Especially the ones by the Wayans Bros.

I presume it was his autobiography he was signing.  Any good?

That was the them of the Fark headline: "Time to pry the gun out"

My sister has read his autobiography, she said that he has tons of interesting stories, and that he is a really nice guy. She said its very well written and even though its pretty thick she read it in only a couple of days. She says he has a lot to teach, and is a very engaging read.

He was a great civil rights activist, and says in his biography that Martin Luther King was one of the greatest public speakers he had ever heard. He also talks about WWII and they put him in True Lies as Arnold Schwarzenegger's boss because they said only Charleton Heston could make Arnold look insecure.

That's sad to hear.  Alzheimer's is a terrible disease.  I hope he passed peacefully.

As far as his politics go, I'm not entirely on board with the NRA (I favor some gun control), but gun ownership is far from the worst sort of advocacy.  It would be far worse if he were an outspoken supporter of tighter government restrictions on personal freedoms (i.e. the far-right religious nuts).  Not many people know that Heston was actually a big supporter of civil rights in the '60s - he was near the podium when Dr. King gave his "I Have a Dream" speech.  I wouldn't be surprised if he was more of a libertarian.

Anyway, he was a great actor and a decent human being.  May he rest in peace.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Heston was either libertarian or liberal in those days, but started leaning towards the right-wing as his life went on.

Politics aside, he was a good actor. Touch of Evil is one of my favorite films. 8)

I read this earlier this morning and just wasn't sure what to say. He was one of those guys that just exuded manliness and sincerity. I'm having trouble thinking of what to say about the man since I loved his work, but know little about the actual man. He'll be missed.
