...and CT is sporadic? They've only had one release! I don't think it's possible to do something once sporadically.

I meant that we don't know when the next one is coming.  And even when they had a release date it changed 3 times.

One thing that Cinematic Titanic did that I really like was it sort of "broke the rules" of riffing. I don't know how better to describe it than to state an example. To the short lab assistant: "3 feet yet?" to which he responds, "Not yet!". This is a very easy, but pretty funny style of joke to make, but I have noticed that RiffTrax likes to steer away from this, because it really does ruin the "This is painful. This is the first time we're watching this movie" charade the riffers try to put on.

I think it's just a different style of riffing, those kind of jokes fit right in with CT being more interactive with the movie.  I don't think CT is trying at all to pretend that it is the first time they are viewing the movie, so they are more free to do stuff like that.  Like I've said before, I hope they pick their future movies based more on what they can do with them vs. just finding a bad movie with a clean print.

I like both styles, so I don't want RiffTrax to change.

That's very old school. I think they used to refer to upcoming dialogue in the first season. They cut it out after that. That's pretty much Rocky Horror. You could do a whole movie riffing before the dialogue, but I don't like it as much.

A show whose fan base welcomes everyone, and isn't limited to forty-year-old guys with severe bitterness toward the opposite sex

Wow!  An attack on 40-year-olds outta left field!   ;)

Why not, 40-year-olds are like stupid repulsive anteaters!   ;D

Hey boy, shouldn't you be at work, paying into the social security fund that I will burn up during my long retirement?

I am 44 now, if I retire at 50, I am hoping you will support me for another 30 years sucker.

Apparently you middle aged guys only have around 47 credits.

You should try it as an early 20's guy...

...A stallion!

Always good the first time out.

I just finished The Oozing Skull, and I have an insight that will shock you, will shake you, and will change the way you see everything:

Cinematic Titanic reminds me a lot of the first few seasons of MST3K, while RiffTrax reminds me a lot of the later seasons of MST3K.

I know. I'll give your heads a few seconds to stop spinning from the gravity of this insight.

CinTit, to me, seems more off-the-cuff, more scatterbrained, more laid-back, and more like sitting on a couch in your living room poking fun at a cheesy movie with some particularly funny friends. RiffTrax, on the other hand, is more polished, more focused, and comes off more like the work of professional comedy writers. Thus, RiffTrax is probably more consistently funny, but CinTit retains more of that goofy weird off-the-wall "WTF-ness" that you felt the first time you watched MST3K.

Put another way, RiffTrax is more what I'd bring to a Saturday movie-showing night with friends, and CinTit is more what I'd watch alone on a slow Sunday afternoon smoking a... uhm... marlboro.

So, both are good, but very different experiences.

A suggestion for CinTit, if they're listening: They really need to cut a deal to make their offerings available over iTunes. Their target market is exactly the kind of people who use iTunes, and it really beats having to wait for a DVD to come in the mail. The less available their products are for legal download, the more people are going to pirate them, not necessarily to cheat Joel & Co. out of the money, but just as a matter of convenience.

I agree with the folks who've said it seemed a liitle, oh, overrehearsed, or stiff, or something.  But then, it's their first one, so that's perfectly normal, it seems to me.

So even if I found the first one a little less than perfect, I'll put my money down for the next one with no questions asked.  As folks have already pointed out, what a great time to be a fan of the Riffaverse - product is washing up around our ankles.

As far as fans somehow dividing into hostile camps or something, I don't see it.  CT does does the old cheesy stuff they can afford to buy rights for, and RT does the newer cheesy stuff they can't afford to buy rights for.  Everybody wins, right?

Look at the RiffTrax Blog where Bill posted a picture of an iceberg, or the mst3kinfo.com post that links to it. It's always just one or two people that take things way too seriously and blow it out of proportion, and then the rest of the fans who "get it" make fun of them for being so uptight.

I tried to watch this morning, I found absolutely horrible with barely any funny riffs. I ended up turning it off with 20 mins to go. I was so bored. Save your money and just download it.

it was a valiant effort. It just didn't feel right. Hopefully subsequent releases improve on the formula.
