Scary Movie 3 and 4 were directed by a now-insane David Zucker. The Wayans Brothers' entries were the ones that were actually funny.

All right, this has been really bothering me. The TV spots for this turd show this last little gag with a Rambo semi-look-alike saying "Say hello to my little friend," and then moving to reveal a machine-gun-toting midget. Those hacks stole this fucking gag from Jane Austen's Mafia! What the hell? This unoriginal crap was produced by a major studio? What was Fox smoking when they greenlit this shit? >:(

I don't understand it either.    They must be REALLY cheap to make and not need a lot of sales to make a profit.

[No budget info available, but I'd assume it would be about the same.]

Taking in the costs of advertising and overseas distribution, I believe that these films are losing money. How much, I don't know.

Then I don't get how these movies were made at all.    I think I will go get a beer, scream into a pillow and find a good DVD to watch.

If you going to take in international costs then you've also got to take into account overseas gross as well, doing that they both made around $85 million and probably had pretty healthy dvd sales too....

It's not two or three hours long...it is an ETERNITY of endlessly unfunny jokes that go nowhere. When you enter the theater you are being punished for your sins. These movies aren't movies. They're torture. You aren't entering a theatre. You are entering Hell itself.

Suddenly, I'm picturing Jigsaw making announcements before the show:

"Hello, moviegoers. Do you want to play a game? You made Norbit and Epic Movie hits; but now there's a price to be paid for your indiscriminate viewing choices. You can survive the next hour-and-a-half, but there WILL be blood. Oh, and there's a brown 1996 Toyota Camry in the parking lot with its lights on."
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Unfortunately, Epic Movie also did $46 million in international box office, plus another $9.7 on video, bringing its total take to over $95 million, making it extremely profitable. THAT's why we're being subjected to Meet The Spartans (which, like Epic Movie, is also coming out at the end of January, a DEAD period for the theatre business).

I didn't think that Norbit was that bad, actually. :-\

I just thought of another explanation for the Epic and Date Movies making so much money: the theaters they played in were run by the mafia, who laundered money through the films' box office receipts. That's how Deep Throat showed up as making $600 million.

Sorry, Isaac, but we ran Epic Movie, and I can tell you that people actually did come to see it.  :(

People came to see Deep Throat, too. And after seeing it as well. ;D

"Say hello to my little friend" has probably been a joke in more things than anyone will ever see. It's not that funny to begin with, but to have RAMBO say it doesn't even make SENSE. And yes, I'm SORRY, jokes have to make sense. Which is why this and Epic Movie are TERRIBLE. You can't just go all fantasy land and have all these different universes in one movie and try to make it logical. Why is Britney in Sparta? If you can't answer that sensibly, you can't have a movie.

Somebody take their movie away.

Sadder, still: I have a group of friends that built their entire weekend around seeing Epic Movie.  I've never been so happy to miss out on a weekend of "fun."
