QuoteJimHillMedia is reporting that Disney is planning on continuing the "National Treasure" franchise with several more movies, children books and even a park ride.

First, the site noticed that Disney has registered two domain names (NationalTreasure3DVD.com, NationalTreasure4DVD.com), and even though the word "DVD" is in there, the two films are being planned to appear in theaters. This makes perfect sense, since "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" has already earned over $365 million, pulling ahead of the first installment, which brought in over $347 million, back in 2004.

Unfortunately, the studio cannot begin filming "National Treasure 3" until the writers strike is resolved, but several plot ideas have already began floating around. Apparently, the Gates family will head to Easter Island and beyond, in search of Atlantis. More importantly, the pure, clean power source that was supposedly lost forever when this ancient civilization sank beneath the sea. Which, were it to be harnessed today, would immediately put an end to global warming. Not to mention making gas and oil obsolete.

Although we probably won't see another "National Treasure" movie in theaters until 2010, we will still be constantly reminded of the franchise.

Disney is planning to launch a series of children's books, entitled "Gates Family Mysteries," and maybe adding a new attraction to the Disney parks. Earlier, Nicolas Cage stated: "My biggest thrill would be if Disney was so happy with the movie that they gave it a ride. I love amusement parks and I love Disneyland and I would love to see a National Treasure ride. That would be a dream come true for me." It looks like Cage might get his wish.

eh - I'm okay with it - serial movies are fun (Indiana Jones and the like).

Plus, it's good clean fun to take the little sibs and cousins to =)

My prediction:  Within five years, there will be a National Treasure movie featuring the pirates of the Caribbean.

I know the movies are corny but I still like them.  I'd support more.

Only if they promise to fix Cages hair.  It looked like it was going to fall off or something.  The sideburns...that kept climbing into his scalp was very distracting to me.  I wasn't alone either, Mr. Moviefone brought the hair thing up to.  Mind you I don't agree with him often, but if somebody that will watch anything notices it, it is probably a problem.

the 2nd one wasn't as good I didn't think, but like the first one the movie looked so stupid and ended up being a pretty fun film.  Nick Cage seems to have a talent for making a movie look like absolute crap but int he end it's still entertaining.  Con-Air has to be one of the worst films ever made, but its so much fun.

Well, I agree with you about Con-Air.  It's always been a guilty pleasure for me.  I especially like John Malkovich's unintentionally hilarious "Cyrus the Virus."  (What kind of stupid-ass nickname is that?)
