I am just a bit too sensitive to disgusting/gross/graphic/gorey stuff.  So can someone give me an idea where The Grudge sits on the gross-o-meter?

To give an idea of my tolerance level: for me The Matrix is okay even though has gun violence, because it doesn't show the bullet-riddled bodies or huge blood spatters or anything.  However, The Ring was actually a little too gross for me, because of the one scene where the guy gets in the tub with a TV--that made me feel sick just because it was weird and seemed like a disgusting way of killing oneself. Also I don't do too well with depictions of sadism. For example, the scene in xXx where the scientists get killed kind of grossed me out because the nihilist or anarchist or whatever guy mocks them as they're about to die. I know it's just a movie, and Mike riffed it nicely, but I just feel sick when I see disgusting and/or sadistic depictions.  If The Grudge has them, I'll have to give it a miss.

It may be alright, as it's PG-13, and I get the impression that maybe Mike doesn't like a lot of gross-out, so maybe (I hope) he'll never select too icky of movies.  If it were say, Saw or Hostel, I'd definitely skip it, due to what I've heard about them.

I'd say that The Grudge is very blood and gore free, and that's based on the unrated extended edition. As I recall, you don't really see anybody get killed. It's more of an atmospheric, things popping up behind people type of scary movie, which thankfully seem to be holding their own against the competing "geysers of blood" genre. Most of the previous RiffTrax movies are actually more violent.

(Possible Spoiler) Except for at the beginning when someone takes a nose dive off a balcony.

And the absence of a certain jaw could freak some people out  ;D

I have a question about "The Grudge".    I like a good scary movie from time to time.....but I'm *very* sensitive to themes of a "spiritistic" nature.     I still will not watch Poltergeist (among others) for just this very reason.

I have seen some movies that *looked* like (and advertised as if) they would be very spiritistic, and it turns out they weren't at all....(Lady in the Water is a classic example)...

I'm wondering if The Grudge has a spiritistic plot line....or does the whole thing have a very "non-supernatural" explanation?

Yeah, Scooby-Doo and the gang unmask the ghost girl at the end. It's kind of a letdown.

Yep, the whole thing's about ghosts.  Probably not your cup of ectoplasm.

Right. I forgot about that bit. But it's just Bill Pullman, so no big deal.

Actually, I would argue that they're not really ghosts so much as the physical representation of evil energy created and perpetuated by evil events. I believe most people would define a ghost as the disembodied spirit of a dead person, and technically the entitites in the Grudge, while appearing as real dead people, are not the original victims' spirits. The original victims' spirits have passed on. This is why many people decribe the movie as being about a curse, rather than ghosts. Does that make any sense?

Q: What did the Pink Panther say when he belabored a point?

A: Ped-ant, ped-ant, ped-ant ped-ant ped-ant.

I mean, you're technically correct, but I'd still say the film is "spiritistic" either way.

I recently watched "Ghost" on AMC. Why?  Because I had a fever and was glued to the couch, okay?

Any-who, Whoopie Goldberg's performance alone was enough to fill any brave soul's pants with terror.

But even more disturbing was enduring 2 hours of Patrick Swayze without riffing.  If you listened closely, you could hear Mike's riffs coming from behind the television.  Very spooky.
