THE GRUDGE IS COMING! DISCUSS!

Personally, I preferred the Spanish language version "El Resentimiento"

I don't think that folks should be frightened to start these sort of threads.  The Mods will likely just move the conversation (posts) to an official thread if they wish to create one.

I actually like The Grudge.  I remember sitting next to a colleague of mine (a tough Irish guy) and about halfway through, he mentioned that he didn't "like this very much".  Which was his code for "this is scaring the shit out of me."  ;D

There are two DVD versions out there.  We used the standard theatrical release, not the directors cut.  It has a runtime of 91 minutes.  Don't get the directors cut.  Get this one:

Interesting choice for the next movie. I didn't really care for it too much. So I look forward to Mike and Kevin giving it a good going over. But I will say that compared to other horror movies that have recently been released this one is not a totally horrible movie.
Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

Never seen it.  Should I bother watching it first, sans rifftrax?

I actually rather liked this film; actually I rather enjoyed the whole series (which is what, 6 films, 2 shorts and another on the way?).

Damned pleased to see it getting roasted though  ;D

Okay, how frightening and/or gross is this movie?  I usually avoid movies that exist solely to scare the living daylights out of you, and the previews of this one were off-putting.  I don't mind a really bad movie, provided it's accompanied by Mike's commentary, but over-the-top scary/gross might be too much.  (However, if you throw in Bill Corbett I won't be able to resist!)

I think that the Grudge would have been much better had the director of The Ring taken it under his wing (he didn't do the Grudge did he?). I think the best thing to come out of Japanese horor movies has to be the crazy frame-skipping movment that ghosts in Japanese films like to do so much =P

Aside from that though, I don't really like any of the Japanese horror movies (whether original or American released) aside from The Ring which scared the daylights out of me. I did happen to see that movie without knowing what it was so my mind was compeltely unpolluted when I saw it.

Horror movies dont frighten me...because they are not real.
I just keep reminding myselft that and its all good.

The only movie to ever scare me...waking up in the night and cant get back to sleep scared was The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

I think it got to me, because it was based on a true story   :-

Watch it, and if you ever wake up at 3am again, you will pee yourself with fright.

So for those of you that don't know, I am a Roman Catholic minister in this Diocese, and exorcisms do frighten me. The fact is, exorcisms happen almost every hour of the day, and orders of priests have to keep their identities secret because some satan-worshipers see the life of a priest as being the ultimate prize for conquering.

Anyway - I heard that that movie was a somewhat hollywood-ized version of the truth (of course =P) but for some reason, I can't bring myself to watch it because I know I probably won't be able to handle it.... though I did hear from other people that the movie sort of sucked lol.

The Exorcist didn't scare me that much - probably because it didn't age very well. But the movies that really get me are actually the more ghostly and creature-based ones. Movies like Sixth Sense and Signs actuall /do/ get to me, whereas movies like Final Destination, Saw, and the like entertain me on more of a comical level =).

That being said - Horror is probably my second favorite genre of movie, underneath fantasy/scifi (I tend to group them both together). The scariest movie I've ever seen (for me) was The Ring because I straight up couldn't watch TV anymore for a while =). The most ineffective horror movie that I watched lately was without a doubt Hills Have Eyes (the remake)
