THE MEANING OF SMILEYS:

Happy: Indicates Happiness, perhaps an air of joking.
Wink. May indicate sarcasm, or someone may be flirting with you.
Big ol' dumb grin: Indicates EXTRA happiness!
Big ol' Dumber Grin: Indicates extra happiness, and maybe a sense of self worth.
Angry: Indicates angriness, distaste, displeasure, or mock-angriness
Sad: Indicates Sadness
Eye-Buggy-Slack-Jawed: Indicates surprise, or too much coffee!
Dude with a stroke: Indicates chuckling.
Blushing Sad Dude: Indicates embarassment, but also seems to carry a degree of sadness.
X-Mouthed Dude: Indicates a promise to be quiet, but also looks like he's gonna throw up.
Slanty-Mouthed Dude: Indicates lack of opinion, lack of caring.
Kissy-Face: Indicates flirting, general creepiness.
Crying face: You made someone CRY! Shame on you! Or the outside event that triggered it.
Satan: Means you're satanic. May also portray a harmless mischevous nature.
Means you're calling someone a spammer. Also means you're probably a hypocrite.
Means you're really angry. Angrier than the other angry face.
Means you're SO angry, you're cussing in BLACK font.
Applause: Means you like that that happened!
Supposed to mean that you're speechless. Looks like you're scared and cold and/or sick.
Means you or somoene just told a comedy-club style joke. Doesn't look like you care very much for it though.
Means you're frightened.
Means you've just looked at one of RVR's images. Maybe something else you didn't like.
Means High Five.
Means you're swordfighting, or just plain-ol' regular-fighting.
Means you have very little sympathy, but still care enough to whip out the ol' violin and play a sad song for 'em.
Means the topic is dead and no longer needs to be discussed. Or that you're cruel to animals.
Means that you're toasting with beer.

It wasn't about sexism or naked lady body paintings, so he stayed out.   

By the way, I think these smileys are sexist because they all seem to be male.

No the Wired article mentioned that they were filming the live show to release along with the studio version of Brain of Blood. Joel also mentions the filming of it in his very first CT post:
