From what Ive heard the movie sucked like a Hoover, so keeping the original name probably wouldnt have saved it from being a steaming turd.

Half of the problem is that people went by what they heard and didn't watch it themselves.

More than half. Groupmind.  People were so eager for this to fail that it made it a self-fulfilling prophecy.  I don't know anyone who saw the movie who disliked it.

Same, though I know few who saw it.

Same with The Lone Ranger, most people I heard talk about it said some variation of "Depp plays a Native American, it's stupid" but anyone who looked beyond that seemed to say it was decent if too long.  I never saw it myself but a possibly dumb casting choice rarely defines a movie for me

I couldn't make it through Lone Ranger and haven't had the experience of any one telling me it was anything but awful.

Chappie is an example though. I know a lot of people who loved it. Enough that I will give it a watch when it comes out on Netflix/Hulu.
FINE

RVR II

Yesterday I watched Twister and The Day After Tomorrow on Blu-Ray (no noticable improvements that I could see from the original)..

And watched Spaceballs on Blu-Ray today. Bought it on ebay brand new for under $7 dollars as Netflix has had it on a 'Very Long Wait' for over 4 months. Got tired of waiting..

My youngest brother was obsessed with Twister. The movie would stop and he would rewind it and watch it again. And we're talking at a very young age.

Sorry you had to watch Spaceballs, or the movie-that-is-much-better-as-a-foggy-memory-from-you-childhood.

I watched it a lot when it came out on VHS back in the day :D

I was not allowed to watch Spaceballs when it came out (Just a week after my 17th birthday) but got to see it a couple years later when I was in the Navy 8)

Mel Brooks movies can be that way, I thought Silent Movie was hilarious when I was little, then watched it again when I was around 20 and didn't find it funny at all.

Still, he gets a lifetime pass for Young Frankenstein.

I really should rewatch that. I haven't dared due to, well almost everything else he's done.

Although I still find the Get Smart TV series entertaining.

The ones I can watch often and they don't lose anything for me are: The Producers (1967), Young Frankenstein, and usually Blazing Saddles.    High Anxiety holds up if you wait about 10 years between viewings (and if you have seen a lot of Hitchcock films).

Quirk

I have tried twice to watch The Producers and have never made it twenty minutes in. I find it insufferably annoying.

I liked Spaceballs as a kid, and still think there are some great jokes, but yeah... it's pretty juvenile.

You weren't allowed to watch a movie when you were 17?!  Wow, isn't it PG?

I'd encourage you to check out Kevin and Bill's riff of Day After Tomorrow, I think it's one of the best

Spaceballs is really only half good. Most everything with the villains is brilliant. Especially Darth Helmet. But the heroes...just doesn't work or me anymore. And that says a lot, considering one of them is John Candy!

I tend to skip the Yoghurt bits which even dragged as a kid and I still enjoy it

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Really good!

Edward J Grug III

I've put most of that behind a spoiler since you get pretty specific about a movie the day it launches. If you want to talk specifics, probably best to take it to the Avengers 2 thread.
