John Dies at the End

I just finished the very good book this was adapted from, and I was expecting next to nothing from this movie. I was so so disappointed, regardless. This is one of those adaptations that makes you wonder... why even bother, you know? The tiny chunks of the book they decided to artlessly put on screen with the help of completely wooden actors don't seem like they even form a story on their own. Does this movie make any sense whatsoever to people who didn't read the book? The tone was completely wrong. Effects were pathetic. The cinematography was utilitarian at best. The only good actor in the whole thing was Giamatti, whose role is probably baffling to people who didn't read the book, so his talent and performance are wasted.

Don't watch this. As little as the actual story is featured in this movie, watching it would spoil the plot somewhat for the exceptional book, so avoid it and read the book instead.

I felt the movie had some great ideas trapped inside boring direction and poor acting, I should probably pick up the book.

Pak-Man

Been rewatching the Marvel Phase 2 movies in preparation for Avengers 2. Started with the first Avengers, which is still a total blast from start to finish. Iron Man 3 is better than I remember it. When I watched it the first time, I was about 6 months into parenthood, so- you know- no sleep. My memory of the movie was very spotty. I remembered it being OK, but nothing great. The second time it felt better. It's not a super-fun movie, like Avengers, but it provided a neat look at what PTSD must be like for a superhero. I'm OK with the Mandarin red herring and the final battle is a neat spectacle. On to Thor 2 whenever I get the chance!

Your mileage may vary, but I was not impressed with it.

Agreed, probably one of my least watched Rifftrax, but that may be because I find the movie boring and annoying. The new one, The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant, was really good though IMO.

The riff seems to be the living cliche of my take on Mp3 riffs, still find it weird they chose to ignore the faults in Casablanca and enjoy the ride but have seemingly decided to do that in no other Mp3 movie.  When Darth who loves complaint comedy thinks you've gone too far it's probably time to reevaluate.

Oooh, I remember seeing that years ago.  When did/does that come out?

It falls far short of being as amazing as the book, though. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, but it didn't feel nearly as surreal to me as the book did.

Interesting movie, and not at all what I expected.  A documentary about Richard C. Doty- an Air Force O.S.I. agent.

Doty is contacted by a concerned citizen (Paul Bennewitz) who has detected strange signals emanating from Kirtland AFB.  Bennewitz happens to be a defense contractor and a "genius" with electronics.

Doty realizes Benewitz is picking up classified information. Benewitz has stumbled upon a critical flaw in a classified system.  Rather than asking his cooperation while the Air Force quietly "fixes the problem," Doty, his superiors in the Air Force, as well as the N.S.A. conspire to engages this man with disinformation. Bennewitz is subjected to a prolonged psychological attack, referred to as "perception management."

Bennewitz, a defense contractor, who, stumbled across leaking classified information, and contacted the Air Force in good faith, was eventually driven mad and committed to a psychiatric facility.

This story is so bizarre, it's difficult to remember that it's a documentary, not a fiction

Edited to add: It's available on Netflix.
