I want to get a 1080p monitor (preferably 19") to connect to my desktop but set up near my bed (about 20ft away). It has to have multiple HDMI inputs for the PC and one for my console, or I could use an HDMI switcher. It is my understanding that consoles have some weird HDCP thing requiring a monitor to support it. It would also be nice to have audio out in the monitor to make it one less chord to run. I'm looking to spend as little possible and brand name/display type don't really matter. If anyone hear has a monitor like this or knows of any let me know.
I have a 3 monitor display on my setup..
2 Dell 22 inch monitors and a Vizio 22 inch HDTV that I can switch from a 3rd monitor to TV if I want..
The Vizio M220VA has all connections you are looking for (I think) :o

That looks exactly what I want. It's a bit pricey but I'll keep an eye on it. I wonder how easy it will be to just switch which monitor is the primary considering they will have different resolutions.

With windows 7 it's not that hard, but changing icon and text size can mess up how some programs work, one thing windows 10 does better is dealing with different resolution and size displays, changing stuff like icon and text size is doesn't mess up other things like it used to.  When I plug my laptop into my home theater system it is pretty easy to adjust stuff so I don't have to be 2 feet from the TV in order to read text.

I think I will bind a macro to my keyboard that automatically changes the display resolution and which display to use. After looking at the Vizio I'm leaning towards a TV. I had never even considered just using a TV.  I actually have a 32 inch TV with two HDMI ports on it but I "lent" it to my parents, they have since integrated into their B&B so getting it back may be difficult.

Got my Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop back from my friend with the new 500GB SSD and everything that was mirrored over works great!
Re-ran the Windows 7 performance assessment and the hard disk went from a 5.9 to a 7.9  :o
So now it's ready to make YouTube videos for my upcoming trip to Mexico 8)

The GTX 1080 has arrived!

The vault boy was put in there just for fun, he's not going to live in there but I did consider it.

So far the only game I have tested is DOOM.

At 2560X1440 with every setting set as high as possible I'm getting a FPS of 160. I've seen it drop as low as 130. Without doing stuff outside of the game I literally cant get the FPS under triple digits which is insane. On my 780 I needed to drop most settings to high or medium, set the resolution scaling down to 75% and I was just barely getting a consistent 60fps. So I'm guessing the overall performance in DOOM has improved by 4 to 5 times what it used to be.

I have noticed a weird issue with the new GPU, I occasionally see screen tearing on images while scrolling online. I definitely did not have that issue with the 780. It's barely an issue and it will probably be fixed with a driver at some point.

Don't hold your breath on a driver fix. If it bothers you a ton then disable hardware acceleration in your browser settings. Your browser might run a tad slower, but scrolling will be smoother.

That's the first thing I tried. It didn't fix the issue. Turning off smooth scrolling appears to have fixed it though.

Had a weird 'Blue Screen' on my main computer and smelled something smoldering..
I wonder if it's one of my video cards cause my display went wacko before the BSoD but seems to be working fine now.. ???
If it can last just 1 more week, I'll shut it down while on vacation and work on it after July 4th  :speechless:

I find the "smoldering" smell usually is from the Power Supply, but if and when that finally goes it often takes something else out with it, usually video card or motherboard.  Getting that smell and not having permanent issues can simply mean a power spike that caused solder to heat up.  Not a GOOD thing, but larger power supplies handle that sort of thing better.  That's why you'll often see stuff like **800 WATT POWER SUPPLY!** and then find out that it's actually rated for standard use to 650 and can handle a spike or two higher.  If you are out of the country, and have irregular power, that's likely what's goin' on.

I'm running a 1000 watt power supply I bought from New Egg (I think) but I leave my computer on constantly (even over night) so that may not be helping..
The BSoD happened one other time since that original post and after a reboot, it's running fine again.  :o
I'm leaving early Sunday morning for Mexico so it will get a 2 1/2 week rest period and then I may do some trouble shooting on it.

I had to replace my power supply and CPU heat sink recently, and now my computer keeps turning itself off. I would assume that it's overheating, except that I've checked the temperatures multiple times. The CPU stays around 25C, and the GPU around 40C when it's under stress. The only thing that gets really hot is the motherboard, which can get as high as 70C. It's the same motherboard I had before, and I never had any trouble with it then.

Just in case it's applicable:
FX-8350 CPU
GTX 970 GPU
MSI 970A-G43 (MS-7693) Mother board

Strangely enough, 5 of the six crashes were during Street Fighter V. The remaining one was during Witcher III

Hey all,

So, I have A coolermaster silent pro 1000w modular power supply that all of a sudden one morning started sounding like a Hoover from the 1950s. I tried a bunch of stuff but ultimately bought the same power supply refurbished off eBay. It too is very loud. Do you have any ideas?

PS It's not super hot in my room.

Sounds to me like the 'silent' part of the name is false advertising :rimshot:

I didn't use to be. It was super quiet for the longest time, I didn't add anything or take anything away, just one day it got very loud.
