In many historical battles, an army would disband/retreat if you killed the leader.

This is true, but not true of the era when pirates existed.  They had the perfect setup for an epic battle that would have been par with the battle scene from Serenity or ROTJ.  Regardless of who did it, someone wizzed the ending down their leg.  The Brittish would not have run away because if a captain catches a ship, he gets prize money, and a chance at promotion.

In conclusion, the ending [the topping on a myriad of mistakes] was either the fault of:

a] bad screenwriting

b] greedy executives who just wanted to save money [despite the fact that they'd be guaranteed to make it back, and it's Disney, it's not like the evil empire is lacking money]

c] both

I think the writers were trying to establish Beckett's lack of affiliation to the crown outside of superficial alliance.
I think if I commanded a British vessel, and witnessed a monstrous enemy gunship somehow come back to life after sinking, and then destroy my commander's flagship, that I'd retreat.

I loved it, and after thinking it over,    That's kind of funny.

Ahhh very clever, Mr. Dignan!  I never noticed that!

HAH!

I thought that little review clip was much like the last two Pirates movies... A couple of really great bits strewn in amongst a bunch of rambling.

Bob

I did like the

"running around doing Keith Richards impersonations"

"Keira Knightly is a more masculine Orlando Bloom".

sarcasm_made_Easy

so is this ninja type person doing a bad ben stiller impersonation or is it ben stiller doing all his own stuff badly?

Fuzzy Necromancer

Bloody hell! ><

That opening song for that clip needs a warning label.
Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

In responce to the whole "British fleet turning tail and getting out when the leader's ship is destroyed" debate, I had a different conclusion.

I watched it today and I agree with you.  WTF was that all about anyway?

The Transformer preview rocked on the big screen though.  I'm so there!!

Ok, wait a second about the whole Captain of the Flying Dutchman thing. After I thought about it, it doesn't make sense.

"At World's End" is a complete disaster and an abomination of storytelling, plotting and basic character development.

All of you people here like to poop all over STAR WARS but at least George Lucas knows how to pace a movie.

PHANTOM MENACE is 400x better than both of the last 2 pirate movies.

As much as I loathe the second two Pirates movies and don't like the first one, I really have to disagree with you there.  That was the one good thing about the third Pirates movie, it was well paced so that it didn't really feel as long as it was (for me it only felt like 2 hours, depite actually being 49893 hours).

The Star Wars movies were paced HORRIBLY and the story telling was completely incoherent.  I guess they were great if you ignore the countless plotholes and crappy CGI.  Consider that nothing really interesting happens in any of the prequels.  For me the only consistently good aspect of them was the music.

id rather be castrated than ever watch an unriffed phantom menace again.  granted id rather castrate everyone else than watch it again either.
