It occurred to me to look up the opening date of the Pirates  theme park ride to find the one at Disneyland opened in 1967. So, I wonder who would have starred in the Pirates movies if Disney had filmed them forty years ago.  Maybe they would have gone for stars from other studios, but from their own regulars I chose Dean Jones as Jack Sparrow and (avoiding the usual suspects of Annette and Frankie) selected either Lesley Ann Warren or Goldie Hawn for Kiera's role and the future game show host John Davidson in place of Orlando.  Of course, this depends on how many songs were in the movie.  Oh, yes, there would have been songs!
Any other choices?  I already checked; Tommy Kirk wasn't working for Disney anymore by this time.

Apparently there was a deleted scene saying that if Calypso had been there for Davy Jones after 10 years then his curse would have been lifted and he could have left the dutchman, so the will/elizabeth scenario and end-of-credits scene would have made for a happy ending that way.

I think for the next one, they should ditch the fountain of youth and will/elizabeth stuff and instead do a kind of Whacky Races/Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World/Cannonball run type thing where some pirate dies and leaves 6 copies of a treasure map to six pirates(including Jack & Barbosa) and they have to all race and trick each other to get it.

Dim of the Yard

Feel free to call me an idiot here, but I wasn't actually all that fond of this one.  I didn't see the second movie, so maybe I was missing something when going into the theater, but I left the theater feeling oddly empty.  Don't get me wrong; I thought the fight scenes were spectacular, the CGI was well integrated here, I loved Elizabeth's complete reversal of character from the first film, and I did have a lot of fun during the film.  But for the most bizarre reason, I just wasn't into it.  I don't know what happened.

Sorry, guys....

I saw the movie yesterday and found it to be simply delightful. I enjoyed it as much as the first two. I must point out a historical inaccuracy in the movie though: the term "peices of eight" refers to just that: a gold coin would be broken up into eight peices for payments of fractional debts. That's also why prices for stocks end in increments of 12.5%.

Ohhhh. That explains a lot. Well, for heaven's sake, they should have left that in!! All that crappy never-ending mythological mumbo-jumbo and they left out the ONE BIT that would have made sense and provided for a happy ending. Dolts.

'Skip to the End' - Spaced

Hebs

Just saw this today, actually, somehow resisting all the spoilers, but I have to say I'm comme-ci comme ca about this, too.
I'm not going to spout any femenist speech, but I get tired of the "Kiera Knightly is the so hot" pillow shots.  Blah.
BUT I love the action - it definitely delivers.  And for a freakin' 3 hour movie, the story moves really well.

Simply announcing the hotness of an actor or actress does not amount to a sexist or misogynistic remark.  It is an expression of desire, an appreciation of one aspect of that which makes them who they are.

I think that Knightly and Depp both look stylish and a bit sexy in swashbuckling gear, particularly with the hat on.

Ok, it was better than the last one. I still don't think it justified it's running time. Summer blockbusters aren't 167 minutes long. When did blockbusters forget to do a few things great instead of just being good at a bunch of stuff?

I loved it, and after thinking it over,    That's kind of funny.
