If Leia was capable (and willing) to train Rey to be a Jedi, then why did Rey even need to find Luke to begin with?!

because he was supposed to lead the rebellion resistance or something, i can't remember for sure.

Yes, Leia wanted Luke back to help with the fight, Rey was supposed to find him and bring him back.  The novel for The Force Awakens starts with narration of Leia's thoughts wanting her brother back.  When that didn't happen it then fell to Leia to train Rey.

After just reading this thread with every post spoilered - it was a terrible experience - so I'm not using them. We don't usually in these threads. (And personally I prefer the all unread page: http://forum.rifftrax.com/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0 )

I saw it on the weekend. I thought it was adequate - easily the weakest of the trilogy.

I thought the walking back of Chewie's death - the single most interesting thing in the movie - to be incredibly weak. Especially to do it like two minutes later.

The saving grace of the movie, for me, was that I liked Rae and Ben's story - Which is lucky, since they were the only characters to have any kind of actual arc.

Poe got the hint of a prequel and Finn got nothing.

Rose should have had every line that Dominic Monaghan had.

Maybe I'll like it better on a rewatch, but I found it flat and over long.

*Also* worth noting that I wouldn't put much weight into a novelization at all.

My wife spent a few years doing a podcast all about how awful Novelizations are, and spoke with and emailed with novelization writers, and you would be SHOCKED how little oversight and how much leeway they get. Something like that Lando potential daughter thing could be 100% an invention by the book writer.

Also the novelization doesn't come out till March 3rd, so not sure how that info is out there anyway?

The article goes on to trace the linneage of Luke's lightsaber.  Next to R2D2 and C3PO it is one of the few constants through all three trilogies.  interesting.

 Seems the flashbacks to younger Luke and Leia are from outtakes and B-roll footage shot for ROTJ.  I was wondering how they did that, the faces looked too good to be CG.

Poe got turned into Han 2.0 and Finn just ran around yelling Rey's name and teased a possible relationship with the other black person besides Lando to have a speaking role in the whole movie which also really left a bad taste in my mouth as far as JJ appeasing the lowest common denominator (see! he won't get the white lady) crowd

One of my favourite podcasts THE FLOP HOUSE did an episode on it and apparently they largely share a lot of the reasons I think it's mostly dull to bad but I'm not sure if that'll make me feel better or more annoyed.
