Phantom of Krankor

Did Satan in the movie remind anyone else of Mr. B Natural? >:D
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

IT'S A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

wow, I've always been shocked and amused when people go so batshit crazy about anything they think (usually without seeing it) might make fun of religion but if this is the usual mentality where a 'serious' religious movie isn't even able to be discussed then it's hardly surprising.

well you should all pretty much know my beleifs at this point (and i dont mean religious)  I think stuff ought to be discussed (civilly) when ever possible.

I dont see how anyone could have done this movie in any other fashion, its exactly what i expected and wanted.  But its too serious and dark for me to ever want to watch again.  Personally im curious how enjoyable the nativity story was.

ScottotD

so you didn't think it was over the top?

let me say, no i didnt think it was over the top.  (those are two different movies)

sorry i had to make the pun, but no i left the theater thinking it was really good.  I did not think it was over the top, but admittedly its been such a long time since ive seen it.  maybe id think differently now who knows.  I do know i really liked the way satan was portrayed.

I would SO go to see a movie about Jesus as an arm-wrestling trucker. :^)

Hawk(s) could totally KICK Jesus' ass, double elimination or not.

I agreed with you Scott.  I thought it was way over the top and even anti-semitic, but I was trying to be a peacemaker.  Cuz, you know... we are blessed, us peacemakers...

No, it's blessed are the Cheese makers.  But it's not to be taken literally.  It applies to any manufacturer of dairy products.

Phantom of Krankor

I liked the portrayal of Satan too. It was simple and not over the top, yet creepy at the same time.

He just reminded me of Mr. B because he/ she was so sexless.

Seeing as how Romans really did historically torture prisoners (and probably in a far more graphic way than was even in the movie), I can't rightly say it was over the top. Jesus was tortured, as is shown in the film, and he died on the cross, as is shown on the film. Nuff said. I suppose Schindler's List was also over the top in how it portrayed the holocaust? I didn't think so. In fact it was worse historically than any film has ever been able to portray. The crucifiction probably was too. I have yet to see any movie that includes the part where Jesus is naked on the cross (which he was).

As for it being anti-semetic, I must be the dumbest half-semetic person on the planet then because I detected no anti-semetic sympathies. Fact: Jesus was a Jew. Fact: Jesus did some stuff the Jews, as per their culture, considered to be criminal. Fact: The Jews turned him over to the Romans because the Romans enforced the law. Fact: The Romans tortured and crucified Jesus. If Jesus had been born in whatever Germany was at that time (Germania?), it would have been the Germans. If he'd been born in China, it would have been Chinese. If America existed and He was born here, it would have been the Americans! Are we to rewrite history because it's offensive to a certian group of people? What about the fact that He was meant to die on the cross? Why would anyone blame the Jews (and the Jews be so offended at being blamed) for murder when His death is the only thing that saves humanity and created a whole new religion?

People can think all they want and I respect anyone who saw this film and was everything besides moved by it, as a sidenote. It's just a movie, afterall. No one was obligated to be moved by it. If you were, you were. If you weren't, not the end of the world.

J-Proof

Yeah, I didn't see Passion as being over the top at all. If you can watch Kill Bill and say it's "well-used" violence, then Passion's violence tain't no thang but a chickan wang...
