Robthebarbarian associates himself with Norse mythology, can you tell us the relevant Norse myth?

Well... sort of. Not in a serious way. I vaguely recall Odin putting out his eye and hanging himself so he could absorb knowledge, but that's about it. Oh, and Tyr sacrificing his hand to Fenrir so the other gods could bind him.

I see your point about hero myths though, and I agree.

Excellent!

That's a good example Randy, I view christian mythology probably the same way a christian would watch a movie about Greek or Norse mythology.  I understood the point of the story with the martyrdom for his cause, the movie was just overdone.

Then there's the whole string of heroic deaths that were set to occur during Ragnarok, like, sadly, the death of Thor fighting Jormungand, but I ramble.

That's Gibson for you. I think he would have done better simply showing the hero story, but he had to go with the guilt trip. But this is Mad Max we're talking about here.

RandyMistie

Yep, I agree, Scott, and the anti-semitic leanings were kind of... sad... (I don't get why some Christians blame Jews for killing Christ when that's apparently what God wanted all along...) but even as a Pagan/Wiccan I can see the beauty of this story because it has been played out a thousand times by a thousand civilizations.

Mad Max was a much better example or the christ mythology.

So, I was the only person who laughed but not the only one who thought Mel had taken tips from Joel Schumacher?  I kept waiting for a smoke machine to kick in.

Or maybe see Charlton Heston and Nova running around in the desert in the background in one of the scenes, just as a little easter egg for the fans.

Well come on, it's Judea.. a desert. All it would need is a couple of apes on horses and a guy in a loin cloth running from them. It would have been priceless to see the confusion on people's faces.

QuoteNo, it was either that or AFL so I watched it.

i didnt see an anti semitic leaning in the movie, or in the story.  Nor do i personally know a christian who "blames" the jews.  The Jews didnt kill Jesus, some of their religious leaders helped get him hanged but i fail to see the importance of that on any sort of racial level.
