The Lurker

MartyS (Gromit)

My first attempt at coloring it, didn't have any flat green paint so tried magic marker and alcohol, thought maybe on the white plastic it would give it a look as if snow was mixed in but it didn't come out anywhere near what I wanted. From several feet away it looks OK but close up like in the picture it's pretty bad.

Next time I'm at the hobby shop I'll pick up the proper paints and make it look better.

This is an interesting design, I have my doubts about them being able to hit that price point, it's crazy low, so I wouldn't risk any money on the kickstarter, but it will be interesting to see if they really can start shipping units at that price by the end of the year:

It's a good thing I'm broke because that'd be tempting.

At the very least I think if it's successful it'll break 3D printing into even more common use. And they still have 26 days to go, but have already raised 8X their required money!

I've been reading some of the comments and answers to questions by the people doing that Kickstarter, huge number of red flags go up.  Everything is secret and "new", if it breaks you'll have to ship it back to them, and from everything they said it sounds like they are slapping together very cheap parts that will not last  ($1 geared stepper motors?).

There have been several other printers started on Kickstarter that have yet to ship after making a huge amount over their goal, this will probably be another one.

That spider thing looks cool, but I've found most of those types of gadgets require you to print at really high resolution to have a chance of them working, so you've either got to have a really expensive printer or use very long print times on typical home printers.

Painted my Maze from The Shining, went with a dark green just to see how it looked, think I'll keep it this color:

BathTub

definitely a better paint job!

3D printed werewolf skeleton

That's absolutely fascinating.
I want to see if I hit somebody with it if they'll turn into a werewolf that can drive a 3D printed car.

This looks kind of funny while it's printing:

yer printer leans a bit to the right.
dF = 0
d*F = J

Printed it out with supports turned on, wasn't too hard to clean up the spots where the supports were attached:

Our local library just got a 3D printer we can use for free for small jobs!  About how long did it take to print Htom?
